What the hell is a Ketos? Are we talking KE Corollas? They seem hard to get parts for, and often quite expensive or with farked bodies needing a lot of work.

I've had a number of ST141 & RT142 Coronas... I'm trying to resist getting another.

One thing I haven't mentioned is an RT104, I love the shape and reckon they'd look horn low/whitewalls/venetians, and maybe something like a 3RZ & 5sp but with that engine/box you'd be looking at some serious dollars.. and I don't know that it'd handle all that well or be good on fuel, which are really the two aims.
I'm also very keen on RT104s
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....

actually ke70's are starting to attract takumei tax now that people aren't buying sprinters.

most of the ones you'd find cheap enough are rust buckets anyway and would require some serious body work.

don't get me wrong, bang for buck, they are still a great RWD platform. But they certainly aren't as easy to come accross as they were 2 - 3 years ago.

AE82 has always crossed my mind as a fun little 4cyl car, just can't bring myself to buy a FWD car really...

yeah FWD, no good in my opinion. i picked up my ke55 for 800 bucks, i mean its got leaf rear end but that was pretty fun man, was straight as aswell no rust or anything.
hit up rollaclub.com man or even ae86drivingclub.com.au.

TE71, throw in a plain vanilla 4A-GE, win.

AE71 is probably the more sensible option but doesn't have the same "so-ugly-it's-cool" appeal.

a bit more ontopic reply - rt142 corona's are a perfecft package out of the box and once you remove all that egr crap off the 22r-e you have yourself quite a fun car

suspension is identical to ae86/ke70/ra60 etc. Just mix and match baby!

    I've always hated T18s.

As for RT142s I've had too many... I think I've had three RT142s one ST141, and various other Coronas... nine in total if I recall.

If I got a Corona it would be an RT104.

are you looking to track it, or khana, or hillclimb, or just to pull apart and play with?
you have to make that FWD/RWD decision first tho.

    keto.... too l33t for me...
KE70's are all rustprone anyway. parts are not that hard to come by, and you have to change practically all the running gear anyway to make it worth driving... so all you need is a decent shell (and maybe steering rack, column, pedals... everything else.. gone)

if it is just for fun, then earlier corollas like KE30 are almost given away.. again you have to change pretty much everything, but you start with a lighter package. KE30 parts should still be very cheap to come by, and if you swap to corona struts etc, then availability is same.
only downfall is leaf rear, but a day or two with welder can fix that.

why not get bike trailer instead? or kart?

His real intention is to spend lots of money, 90% finish the project, then sell it off at a fraction of what it cost him. Actually driving the car doesn't come into the equation.

I have two bikes, my daily (ZZR250) and my toy (ZX12R).

Until recently I had a V6 Commodore but it was thoroughly uninteresting and bloody expensive to keep fuel/insurance/rego up to, so I sold it. It also took up basically my entire garage.

I've been looking to replace it with something that's smaller & cheaper to keep/run and if as a bonus I can participate in some basic motoring events (sprint days, for example) and keep occupied in the garage for a few months then that's even better.

I've been considering a $500 excel that needs a bit of a tidyup, but while thinking about that I thought why not fix up a little Corolla or something that I will enjoy, for much the same money.

RWD is a 'must have' for a heavy, high powered car but when you're talking featherweights then it matters very little. I'm not looking to involve myself in any competitive motorsport; I simply want to placate the bug a little.

As for the bike, aside from wanting to end up with a car out of all of this, I can't afford to write it off at the track... while a hack that's cost me a few grand and isn't financed I will care very little about.

As for Norbie, he can go fuck himself

No turbos, no intercoolers, no big exhausts... just a simple little atmo swap... half cut and half a tank of fuel, that kinda thing

    1JZ Corona Mk2
    1GGTE 140 series Corona

They seem like good ideas too.

    St162? 3SGE 5 speed manual.

Mine seems to go alright and its a blast through the hills. They are cheap as all hell and parts are everywhere. They look alright too.

Brake and suspension upgrades are available, and you can always put a turbo engine in later.

Me and a mate are doing much the same as you for some cheapish track fun.

if you can handle having a car that looks like an AE82, then it is probably best bet. still heaps around, parts should be easy to get.. crappy steering feel but probably better with proper susp angles..

for the half cut thing, a KE30 (2 door?) with a 4AG would be lots of fun. dead cheap. still panels and crap around, brakes will keep working for a little while with good pads and the slightly thicker disc from KE70 or KE5x...
and it will feel faster than AE82

of course.. then you have a KE30...... (850kg?)

you could always just whack in the cross-member and steering from KE70, to get you rack and pinion and increase front track, then use whatever AE86 type strut and brake upgrade you want, and an S or T series diff will probably be enough...
add an extra half front leaf to the leaf pack at the back and away you go.

KE20 is even lighter, but panels are harder to find. susp will be changed anyway.(750-770kg?
KE10.... forget it. (but 720kg stock)

the 1J MK2 would be much cooler tho

still think the powersliding smile from rwd shitty rolla will be bigger than the fwd understeer
hmm, hit trackday at wakefield/creek and get a passenger in a few cars?
