Default New battery for 3SGE TA23

I am looking for a good battery for my 3sge powered TA23, I would like to rear mount it and would love it to have a fair bit of power, I dont run any stero gear off it at the moment, but might just run a simple head unit and 6x9's in the future.

    Thanks for any input.

If you're gonna rearmount it then u'll need cables to the boot and one of those black battery boxes.
Just go to your local car place and get them to reccommend a battery for ya.

the oddessys are good - though - ive found , after mine went fizz about a month ago that they have a reputaion of sometimes being unreliable ..

now i know otheras have used it with ok results , and mine was just unlucky but look into it a little more before buying one

while it WAS working though - the battery was great ! - nice and small - lightweight - and powerful enough for cranking a worked 3sgte over

I originally bought an Odyssey ESV1000 for my TA23. The original bettery failed and now the second one has failed over a period of about 2-2.5 years, I am unable to claim warranty on this one (still under original warranty time) as they void warranty after the first claim. The bloke at the battery shop said he has had many problems with claiming warranty with odyssey also. Not really good enough for the price you pay for them.

I now have a cheapie battery that they have loaned me (and i still have) and its been good for months now.

I used a supercharge gold battery (calcium battery) so no vents and sealed (with a really cool looking indicator to tell me if it's flat just in case i didn't work that out if i cranked it and it didn't work) Good for boot applications as well because it is sealed according to a copper I asked once at a motor show.
It has been fine for over a year now.
I don't have a stero on it though as i haven't put a stereo in yet.
I have run it flat twice in that period and it keeps bouncing back.

nods to oddessy and warranties - this is where im at - they do NOT like warranting batteries it seems ..

which i didnt know when i bought mine - regret it a bit now

Running a delcor sealed one , but its heavy and not ideal

I will never use or recommend Odyssey to anyone, I have had a bad experience with them and too many others i know aswell

I have 2 Optima Yellow tops and cant be happier

The following is not advised as these are only meant to have a shelf life of 12 months but i had mine sitting for over 2.5 years, charged it up and not had a problem with it

Well, certainly seems that oddysey have a bit to answer for. You definitely need a sealed battery tho, you cant get anything that is vented. I would say check out gel cells from maybe a marine place. I personally need to look into this, as i was intending on using oddysey, but am very reluctant after reading this article. Thanx for the forewarning all the people who have had bad experiences.

Best batteries are at pick a part! had one for ages. come with a 6 month warranty and just take it back for another before it runs out

Hokey, pick a part doesnt normally have sealed batteries as is required in a boot install. Biggest problem with the boot install of a 23 is the fuel tank is in there, so the authorities frown upon it heavily. I will be installing a drop tank for my project, so that will neaten things up a fair bit... make room for the dual 10" Cerwin Vega subs and all.

To the person who neg rep'd me for posting this, I'd like to point out that:

    (a) the original poster never said anything about mounting a battery in the cabin, he said "rear mounted" and being a TA23 I assume that means the boot.

    (b) a sealed battery is NOT a requirement, I got my car engineered quite recently with a battery in the back of the car (with appropriate ventilation etc), and it's a liftback!

Had to get that off my chest...
