Hint for the wise: 93 onwards (I think) MX5s came with a factory sealed battery, boot mounted. These are easy to come by and cheap, and perfect for a boot install with out a dirty big box there as well. You don't NEED a sealed battery, it's just nice.

Oh, and oddesy batteries are not designed (or reccomended for) automotive applications. I'm not sure how they ended up being so popular...

Norbs, you know it was me. The reason its a problem in a 23 is that its a coupe, and they have the FUEL TANK in the boot... therefore the boot is a class 2 hazardous area (read your aus standards if you disagree) and a high discharge electric device like a battery is a no no in those areas. Liftback is fine with ventilation as you dont have the explosion problem.

    Cheers, Owen

    (a) the original poster never said anything about mounting a battery in the cabin, he said "rear mounted" and being a TA23 I assume that means the boot.

    (b) a sealed battery is NOT a requirement, I got my car engineered quite recently with a battery in the back of the car (with appropriate ventilation etc), and it's a liftback!

Had to get that off my chest...

Doing the things that aren't popular... cause being popular and being good are often distinctly different.
