starter motor?
car in gear? clutch?
I'm taking the block out of the celica so i can give the engine bay a bit of a cleanup and re-paint in some areas. Ive undone all the bellhousing bolts that connect it to the block and jacked up the engine enough to take off the engine mounts. Since then i have lowered it back down to centre for when i get it off that the spline from the transmission doesnt get bent. Problem is that the gearbox just wont budge!Tried pulling it every which way especially towards the front of the engine bay but it wont release. Hammered a paint scraper around the plate and it goes all the way around easily. Triple checked all the bolts are undone to which they are. Dont have an engine crane so that just makes things harder.
Anyone got any ideas?
A pic of what im working with:

Yep, have fallen for the starter motor before!
Starter motor was undone. Jamming a screwdriver in there did the trick, the dowles were stubborn bastards tho. Some good ol' backyard enginuity and a few mates was the key to getting the block out without a crane, got some chain wrapped around the block then wrapped the rest of the chain around a big ass barbell i had and levered it outlol.
Thanks for the help guys, Joey

Some times the spigit bearing in the crank can be stubbon or has friction welded onto the shaft which makes things really difficult.
Ha ha this happened to me!. the spigot bearing was stuck on the input shaft and was getting caught on the clutch.Originally Posted by 3jcelica

there was a large enough gap for me to undo the clutch bolts..
ended up dropping the clutch off as well!
a lot of frustration!
Yep same has happened to me and it is a major prick, did as you have suggested, and had to unbolt the clutch
