    Default 3SG into RA40

I have helped a friend sucessfully do this conversion. I'm not happy wih the special inlet manifold I made, and would like to hear from anyone else who has done this conversion, to see what they ended with. thanks

which version of engine? the down draft ports do make it a bit tricky to get a close to stock length intake runner length.

alot of people end up with really short runners, doesnt "seem" to hurt power.

others either flip and reverse the stock intake manifold, or go full custom. Beau Yates set up is pretty neat.

the runners sweep down and forward..

from memory, it was a gen 2 head on a gen 1 block - Terry or Graham should be able to confirm.

Dizzi was re-positioned at the (now) front of the motor, short runners to substantial plenum. Yellow tags identified plugs - have since been removed andengien bay looks quite impressive.

Glenn would be someone to ask. He's had a variety of 3SGEs in his RA45 but admittedly all had ITBs.

last time I caught up with Graham (owner of RA40 above), he was looking at re-designing the intake to lengthen the runners.

Issue 13 (or 12?) of Race magazine had an article about manifold designs (using a 3SGE in a clubman) and they runner lengths that produced power are far longer than the above manifold. Terry's design is probably better suited to a turbo.

fwiw: Graham is also looking at deleting the factory ECU and thus AFM (with me supplying an msefi ECU in a factory ECU case) - but wants to attack the manifold issue first.

I have a 3sge in a KE25, with custom inlet manifold. Doesn't 'seem' to hurt power, good between 3500-7000rpm. A very little flat spot occasionally between 2500-2750rpm. But Most of this has been elliminated by tuning the WOLF 3D computer. probably a tuning thing. Changing at 3000rpm still keeps me in first position at the traffic lightdrags lol.

My runners are alot shorter too, read the clubman article in the Race Magazine. I'll leave it for now, happy with the performance.
We used the stock manifold, and cut it up and made the runners from that.

im in the process of my 3S converson right now. this is a Gen3 manifold cut down to suit , it makes the runners realy short and removes the tvis chamber.

No idea how its going to go, the motor isnt running yet, let alone drivable >.<
    Cheers Mike

    Hi
Have a gen3 3sg in my ra40, the inlet manifold took some work, I did most of it myself (costs money otherwise) a bit basic - I used a 2.2 mazda manifold flipped, with a 13mm spacer plate to the head (to transition the changes in manifold to port sizes, also the head was from a turbo so had smaller inlet ports) I am currently running the standard Toy ecu, a magna 2.4 throttle body, the 2.2 mazda airflow. As Rob KE 25 above said really good 3500 - 7000 mine is standard other than exhaust
