I did a quick looksie but didnt spot anything obvious.
Does anyone know the width and what vehicle had the narrowest available G series differential assembly?
I "think" maybe it was a Hiace? Is this right?
Any idea on actual widths?
Thanks
John

Hiace is definitely wider than Hilux's as I have a Hiace diff and that is why I had to run the big +ve offset wheels to keep them in the guards.
yeah the hiace diffs are up around the 1490 or 1500mm width IIRC.
RN27 is definitely the narrowest at 1370mm, followed by RN4* series at around 1410mm.

Ok cool. thanks for that. If my scientific estimates are right it'll be 80mm narrower then what I have to start with![]()

if you are looking for wider versions.... then the old taragos have wider widths again.

Weren't the tarago's F series?
Cheers Craig
Yeah, I thought a lot of the early Taragos were F series. Better check that to be sure.
Hiace is something like 1570mm from memory.
Yep, was running a 1370mm hilux in my sprinter
Pretty sure that's the narrowest
I dont suppose anyone has one of these 1370mm jobs lying around gathering spiders?

HJ47 landcruiser
FJ55 Landcruiser
MS65 Crown
Any idea what a 1400mm G series would be then? As mine from drum to drum was 1400...

John..... the RN27 axles are not only hard to find, but usually quite expensive to boot (if you find one).
I've only ever found TWO. One of them, Rod found at picknpayless on a roll-over smashed hilux - the whole axle was shaped like a banana.
The other, came up for sale on these forums and was sold to me within 15 minutes (followed by around 15 people begging for 2nd dibs) - i eventually sold it on to someone else.
One thing worth noting about the RN27 housing is that the diff centre carrier is a little smaller than later model G series housings, and wont directly fit a Toyota G series torsen centre. You need to get the pinion gear shortened, the crown wheel spaced, and something special done with the bearings..... IIRC
There are one or two threads around on this torsen-not-fitting topic.
