anyone have an idea what sort of power levels one should start looking at doing cams?

what sort of gains they give?

is it worth it with an auto?

General consensus is that around 280rwkw through an auto and up you would benefit with cams. (although there are exceptions) I have found that on the stock cams power seems to drop off about 6500rpm with a single turbo setup. Mr 1jz has found the same. The cams should help it breath up top and flatten out the powerband.

As you would expect on a 1jz with such tiny turbos designed to bring it on boost quickly, the cams are suited to this also so top end flow isn’t the priority.

Also, some people have used 264/264 cams on stock twins setups and has made good improvements so it isn’t only for single turbo people.

I would only do it if you have an aftermarket ecu though as I remember something about it doing silly things with the cam sensors.
