    Default TA22 queries.

Hey guys just two questions for you all:

1/ Will my 2t run ok on synthetic oil or is it too thin??

2/ I put a weber 32/36 carb on the old 2t to liven it up. Im fairly sure im running to rich injectors, its fairly stock except free flow exhaust and extractors. What sortof jet sizes do people recommend for a stockish 1.6.

    Cheers.

I wouldnt put anything lighter than 20w50 in my 2T, or else it tends to leak. Whether or not it's synthetic doesnt really matter, but synthetic is usually of a higher quality than mineral oil.

The jetting for the 2L Escort your carb came from is probably pretty close to the mark, if thats the motor it was previously tuned for. It may be a bit rich as you say. Is it blowing any black smoke? What makes you think its rich?

So 20w50 is the go no worries.

As for why i think its rich ive found i need to tighten the mixture screw fairly close to closed to acheive a nice idle. I mean i dont think its running horrendously rich and id probably be happy to leave it how it is. I was just wondering on peoples opinions.

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers

Sure it wasnt the idle speed screw? I got them mixed up for a while. Might find this useful... http://www.racetep.com/weber/32_36DGV.pdf

You might get away with 15w or mabe 20w40, but its not exactly a performance engine so you might as well use a heavier mineral oil and know that it wont piss out everywhere.

    Good luck!

i wouldnt be suprised if the thing is overfueling. if ur doing this on the cheap, pull your main jets / air correctors and solder them up. redrill the hole in smaller sizes until desired afr is achieved.... dont ya just love carbies

cheapest and easiest way to fix this... take it to a carby shop, get them to re-jet and tune the engine... cost ya about $100, but save you a few months of headaches and a lot of time too. Best bet for the 2t for oil is castrol GTX2, quite inexpensive, very good quality, good weight for the ol pooshrod motor. Make sure you use a quality filter too, try and get one with an anti drain back valve that will fit, and use ryco filters, or genuine... worth the extra.

An option with the jets would be to buy some blank ones if you can find them and drill them out with number drill bits. The jets are pretty cheap but it may get expensive if you end up having to buy the drill bits. I bought some blanks from a carby mob up here in brisbane about 2 years ago, but cant seem to find the name of the shop right now. All depends if you have some time on your hands and are keen to try out some jetting combos for yourself. Good Luck with it all!

Thanks for the help guys, will prolly take the old girl down to a carby shop get it done properly and not worry.

On the topic though does anyone have a old busted weber with a spare water choke housing?/ Mine cracked from corrosion so in winter its gunna be a bitch to get going.

    Cheers.
