Question Aristo Steering Dampner (Dampener? Damper? Absorber?)

I was looking at my front suspension trying to find an annoying clunk and I noticed this big fuckoff bolt that does seemingly nothing:

So I looked it up in the EPC and low and behold:

But it's listed as Not Applicable, does that mean it was never optioned on the car or something?

So has mine gone missing between the factory and now or what? Is it needed? Car seems to steer fine... Made it to dubbo and back

do the threads look like they've been used/greased/covered-up at any point?

last pic suggests that rack never got one?

Yeah I cant decide if the black spray under the car is a factory addition or an aftermarket rustproofing. The threads certainly don't look like they've been used since that was applied...

Early model MX83 Cressidas seem to have one, but from memory of driving my Series1 with a mates Series 2 it makes SFA difference.

I have a bit of noise in my steering column, like a loose collapsable joint? I haven't had a look in there yet but... I wonder if a steering dampner would have prevented this happening so soon? (80000k)

Ok well, I guess judging from the condition of the threads, and the EPC info, that I can probably do without it. Thanks everyone
