hey all, new to the rolla scene and i feel the little twinky just isnt stopping quick enough. can anyone point me in the direction of a simple brake upgrade? nothing too fancy, does the ae92 gear bolt up and is it much bigger/better? also anything easy to get rid of the drums? Im not sure but was the ae82 that came out with the 4ag factory have disc's on the back? any help would be appreciated

if your using it on the road then stock is fine
new GOOD pads and fluid will make a big difference.
no need to spend $$$ on it if its not being used for anything that needs bigger brakes.
any car with a stock 4age will have disc rears

i have ae92 series2 (same as ae92 GTZ im lead to believe) fronts on my ae82.you just have to bend the backing plate a little bit but they bolt straight on.
ive bolted the ae92 gze strut and brake setup on to my ae82 ages ago and that stoped on a dime and that was with drum rears aswell, i couldnt of been happier i used to love the zigzag![]()
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
Yep - read the "Shano2" brake upgrade thread I posted in the FAQ (written by Shano2 from twincam forums).
The cheapest upgrade is some AE92 series 2 SX/GTI front discs and calipers, and some good pads (greenstuff have worked well for me).
The best choice is superstrut twin piston fronts and AE101 rear discs - but unless you have a turbo weapon or you are doing regular track days i wouldnt waste the $$$ and effort.

dont forget that if u change the brakes from stock dimentions u will most likely need an engeneering certificate... otherwise insurance can tell u to GTFO when u need them most.
the ae101 rotors and calipers bolt right on. but the rotors are hard to find. and u will need to consider getting new wheels cos the disks are too big to get 14s and some 15s over the top.
you can do anything at http://www.zombo.com/
the only limitation is yourself
What about ADM AE102 rotors and calipers? They should be fairly cheap and readily available, plus they had 14" wheels as standard so clearance shouldn't be an issue.Originally Posted by andy

thanks for all the replies guys, the car is at the moment just used on the road but its only a brake upgrade away from being track worthy, it has all new stiff/low suspension all round and some 16's with low profile tyres just need some decent stopping power. I have already had a couple of hairy moments where i only just stopped in time. the car has green stuff pads/stock brake setup but its just not enough. looks like ill go down the ae101 gear path, thanks again to all.

u could always get some racing pads and slotted and drilled rotors. it will stop HEAPS faster. and insurance cant do shit, cos its the same size as stock.

you cant bolt AE102 discs and rotors onto AE82/AE92 hubs, cos the centre hole in the discs is too large on the AE102 discs.
Superstrut discs are actually easy to get - DBA743 - but you need to redrill them to 4-stud and machine down the diameter.

Hi there,
I have AE82 twin cam and is came with rear disc. It stops fine for my daily driving.
However, at later stage I changed the pads to Zenith Super Hard racing pads on the front and Zenith Hard Racing pads on rear. This helps a lot. Get yourself some racing pads and try it out. This might be the cheapest way of upgrading.
If you've done the pads and still wants better stopping then wou'll be looking at getting your standard disc drilled or machined groove. Together with racing pads this will be much better.
Also when you change your brake fluid you should pump the old fluid out. What I did was put the line into a bottle and pump the brakes until you see the new fluid comes out into the bottle (you should be able to see different in colour). And always check that you have enough fluid in the resevior while doing that.
Hope this helps

yeah i forgot to mention it does have slotted rotors on the front, green suff pads and the brake fluid isnt too old either, it seriously isnt enough. i need something bigger than the 8" rotors and im assuming there single piston calipers. when the brake upgrade is done ill be taking it to a track day, i cant see the stock brakes lasting too long. This car is extreemly fun to drive it has to be the best handling car ive owned, it jus needs bigger, better brakes.
