the pickups on the cams are pretty much the exact shape posted by ed as in a Y, the two close together are 90deg apart and the other is 135deg either side of these.

you also need to tell the ecu exactly where they are in relation to the crank (which mos has mapped out also), and will post a pic of it later. no secrets here.

so now i have to check IF the off the shelf ecu (latest chipset) will run with these parameters (missing tooth function maybe?) or not,

if by chance its the not then the desicion will be made to either trim the lobes (which has no noticable affect on its timing capability from what ive seen) or to go with another chipset and pay for somebody elses learning experience.

and then hope like all fuck that the software may be integrated into future versions of the ecu to aviod others monopolising the market

bahhh, ed's call on this one but hoping to have it sorted without resorting to either of the above.

Do you mean the Toyota system?

I have some screenshots of some PDFs I can post if anyone thinks it is useful.
Not sure if here or a separate thread would be best.

    Edit:
Here's one: This is NOT a 1UZ or 2JZ engine, it is Toyota though.

Here's a pic (not the best but the only one I can find at the moment) of the cam sensor in a VVTI Redtop Beams 3sge. I assume that the other motors would be similar.

You can just see the third "arm" just about to go past the sensor in the second shot.

These shots were taken at TDC.

BTW We ended up with trimming the lobes off as we couldn't find a solution with the firmware version that we have to make it work. But since we're currently not using the VVTI, I'm not worried about it too much. I'm reading this with great interest though

    dave,
the easiest way to get your vvti running again with a single lobe for camshaft feedback is by mounting a hall affect sensor and pickup on one of your front camgears to use as a TDC no1 sync and change your rear camshaft pickup to a HS input using a reluctor interface, then set your cam1 angle offset to suit.

alternitavely (and the easiest way) you can run a reluctor interface on the rear pickup and splice both the HSI and no1 TDC sync into this but im not sure if you would need to run both channels from the pickup thru the reluctor interface or just splice it off 1 channel after it has been converted to square wave.

if you need any more info on how to do it or want a basemap to start from with soleniod freq already set and some tuning already done to get it running dont hesitate to ask.

    cheers

or dave can buy a new 1 from toyota ,as the fwd pickup is bolted to the back of the inlet .same with the exhaust on the beams rwd motor as well

i dont think the autronic will run that style pickup with std software as yet.
the setup he has in there should run with no dramas, just needs to give the ecu a feedback signal.

    cheers

Thanks guys. We're a little way away from that yet, I still need to pull out the motor and get the block re-lined after cracking number 2 liner. Then I'm planning on actually having a decent couple of runs at some state rounds before making more mods for power/torque.
