Get a Suprastick.
I'm now thinking of what plan to go down on the a340e control front.
The way I see it, I have 3 options.
1) Get it converted to completely manualized and just use a shifter (thinking B&M Pro Shifter)
2) Get that M&V Autos shift box thing, and use as shifter to work the gears. (I don't know how that box really works)
3) Get another box that i know of that makes the auto completely electronic and I shift by using buttons on the steering wheels.
I think the above is in reverse order of cost with the fully manualized version being the most expensive. At least to start with.
So, does anyone know, with option two, can you still shift ENTIRELY with a shifter, or does it only really give you "D" mode, or does it give you like 2,3,4 on the shifter or something like that?
Basically what I want to do is invest in the proper shifter NOW and get the electronics to run with the shifter NOW and then deal with the beefing up of the box later on.
Thoughts?
Get a Suprastick.

I may have one for sale pm me if interested
You cannot use D with the MV's box. It is a simple device. You intercept the wires that go from the shifter to the ecu. When 1st is selected, 12v is received by the shift box and A solenoid is on, 2nd different signal received and both solenoids are on, 3rd B is on and 4th both are off. Pretty simple. Search for MV shift box in tech and find a thread by me ages ago if you want![]()
Simplest/cheapest form is to use the selector switch, a few diodes/relays/transistors, and make your own.
Otherwise, if you're getting the box properly built, get it set up for full manual use at the same time.
Cruzida/2JZ - So does the supra stick allow me to have a B&M shifter and fully control the shifts from 1,2,3,4?
Chris - I'm gonna check that thread of yours, but will I be able to use a B&M shifter with the M&V box or do I have to use some sort of electronic shifter doovy like the stock one? Sounds like the M&V doesn't have D, which is fine, but it also allows you full control of the 1,2,3,4 shift.
Mr Shin - Yeah, I like the fully manual option, but it's just a bit costly at the moment. I want to get the car running rather than pump money into getting the box entirely done. However, I may just have to go down that path. what's this about the selector swtich doovy though?
Pretty sure the Suprastick is a fully programmable ecu designed for toyota auto's.
Just remember the 1UZ A341E has a 4th solenoid for shift line pressure that the A340E does not have.
And AFAIK all 1UZ's have A341E's. (ignore those with 5 speeds)

Ah.. Cool. so that 4th solenoid will still be compatible with the suprastick-M&V-tc box?
Sounds like the suprastick is the go.
2jzhilux - what's the cost on yours?

Will be very keen to see how the suprastick goes. Pricey.

Many 1UZs run a cable for line pressure...
Well at this point in time, my choices are
1) Go fully manualized. This will take longer to get done, harder to get someone to do it, and it'll push the process of getting the car going back a lot.
2) Go Electronic in some way shape or form. Will give me more flexibility. I think I might go down this path.
Shinny: When you say Cable for line pressure, is that the kick down cable?
If so, mine has one of those.
Yes, they run that cable, however they all have the 4th solenoid.
One anecdotal story says the cable is for line pressure, the other anecdotal story says the 4th solenoid is PWM controlled line pressure.
Which one is correct I do not know.

Also, if I run a SupraStick, and a B&M shifter, can i use the B&M shifter to go 1-2-3-4 rather than having to use buttons or paddles?
I've received my MV Auto shift box for my Cressida - yet to install it. I'm going to lose the 'D' functionality but I don't mind (for now). I always tend to shift gears manually anyway.
