Mate thanks for righting all that info up for me, very much appreciated! I've done a bit more research over the last hour or so now and combined with what you've told me I'm starting to get my head around it.

From what I've read I believe I can use a remote thermostat from a 4AC equipped AE82 (easy to find at the wreckers), and a bigport FWD rear water outlet. And then use the standard smallport water pump and everything, and just chop up some hoses and mix n match to make it all work. This way although its not neat, means i don't have to waste time/money trying to source all these RWD parts. What I'm not 100% on is why I have to use a bigport FWD rear water outlet, whats wrong with the stock FWD smallport one. From the photos I can tell it comes off at a different angle but it doesn't seem to be too much different and if I'm custom fitting together hoses it wouldn't make much of a difference. Is there something I'm missing here? And if I did it this way, I wouldn't have to stuff around with the alternator at all either, and I could retain the "throttle body water supply". Does this all sound correct or am I way off?

Also, with the actual radiator setup, I was thinking of changing radiators for something that already has the outlets in the correct position, so that I wouldn't have to stuff around with mix matching hoses for that too. I got someone to take measurements of the stock AE86 radiator and I measured my TA22 and it seems much too big. However, I saw a kE70 at the wreckers today and the radiator seemed a similar size to the TA22 one, if not a straight bolt in. Though the bottom outlet is not in the correct position. This leads me to think that the AE71 radiator might be the same or similar as the KE70/TA22 radiators, except being a 4A powered car, the outlets would be in the correct positions. I have no idea if you know much about AE71s but I figured you might, so if you knew that would be great.

    Cheers, Matt

If you look above in the thread, thats the sort of setup they are talking about with the remote thermostat. You need that bigport rear outlet because the AE92 one sticks out and would hit the firewall on an AE71 or AE86, might be different on a TA22 though. Those rear outlets are plentiful anyway, I've ended up with 2 whilst not even trying and never owning a bigport head.

Everything you have listed will work, maybe still an idea to get the AE82 rear outlet, but you still wont be able to run the throttle body water supply unless you work them in somehow. I've got a way in my head that you'd be able to do it but its a bit tricky to explain in words, I'm going to have to do it on my motor so I'll put up some pics after I've done it for you.

A KE70 radiator has the same dimensions as an AE71 one the difference being as you have noted is the position of the outlet (and maybe inlet, can't remember). AE86 one will be way off as you said. You actually PM'd on AE86DC about the radiator out of my AE71 parts car (you'll notice my forum name is the same) I'll try get those measurements for you, but I don't know where my tape measure is right now, but I should hopefully be able to find it tomorrow for you

Ahh yeah I didn't really pay enough attention to the matching usernames Don't worry about getting the measurements of the AE71 radiator, as you say it is the same as the KE70 so I'll make sure to measure that one next time I go to the wreckers.

For the throttle body water supply, would it be possible to just run hosing instead of pipes? Or a combination of both, perhaps using the RWD 4AGE water pipe, with the section cut out that interferes with the knock sensor (no idea where or what this bit is but I'm assuming its somewhere in the way of the pipes but its just not installed in the photo you put up) and then hosing in the cut out section that goes around the knock sensor?

Anyway, I'm off to bed now, I'll think more about this tomorrow and have a look at my engine. Thanks again for all the help mate!

Hmmmm why CAN'T you use the rwd 4AG plumbing on a high comp block???? Is it the head to block drain hose? Couldn't a bowed hose work here so you could run the plumbing behind the oil drain????

Oh... here is a pulley comparison... on left is rwd, on right is 20V silvertop fwd

Information is POWER... learn the facts!!

2 things, the head to block drain hose gets in the way of the little pipe off the rear outlet for the throttle body. Secondly the knock sensor also gets in the way of the piping. Its rather frustrating I must say.

Cheers for the comparison pic too.

Nice Write up, I took all the same pictures intending to do the same thing many years ago but my usual lazy ass never got around to it.
