also not legal as you will require the emissions gear that comes with the 3sge

just HTFU and learn that efi is not complicated

All the detractors on here! I thought we were meant to encourage and support people.

I say go for it Shmickmik. I think it would be a good project, be different and be a great learning experience. Ignor the people who say you silly. Think hard though as to why you want to do it I can see your point about all the things that could go wrong, but as many things could go wrong with carbs just as easily.

If I were to do it I'd pick up the latest issue of Race Magazine again and read up on inlet runner/plenum design, incidently for a 3S-G in a clubman.

A good long curved system to bring the Carbs up to the top of the motor with the inlet ram tubes pointing forward would be ideal. Something of course custom made.

At any time after you decide to go back to EFI then you can bolt on twin-dual throttle body replacements for the sidedraughts and then that could be force fed by adding a good plenum.

Worry about engineering and road legal issues later. Yes it will be hard to comply with emissions and if you had to do it right and be legal then you would need to submit it to testing.

    Regards

umm, no, you worry about road legal issues now before you waste money doing something to the car that will make it unregisterable.

people are detracting because they have shmickmik's best interests in mind. Its all well and good to encourage someone but not if they are going to be in a worse off position than when they started. i.e. lighter wallet and unroadworthy car.

u need something to control the timing
u could leave all the electronics intact, just have the injector lines grounded

sorry, i would like to retract that previous post, but i would like to suggest that in trying to go "forwards", you are in fact taking about 50 steps backwards.

if you ask for advice, be sure to take some of it on board. not necessarily all advice, but some. then stick it to em.

einstein/edison/name famous inventor here... wasn't too put off by the haters/doubters, but he would have been inventing efi, not reverting back to carbs...
    sorry.

If you are doing it because you know what you're on about, and want to do it for the challenge, then I'm all up for see what you can come up with.

If you're doing it because your dad's uncle's hot water service repair guy said his HQ was unbelievably fast and had a 4 barrel, then forget it.

I thought people like this were gradually disappearing, until I bought a workshop... The number of odd ideas that circulate on a constant basis is truly disturbing!

Will you be converting the distributor to points?

Ignition timing is also controlled by the EFI ECU.

This is what it is all about. Is it not?

It also comes down to the fact that i like to have FUN with my cars.. they arnt just transport for me.. but big .. expensive lol toys. I love tinkering with them and being able to do everything myself.
I just wish I had the time to "tinker more". Best way to learn and these forum should be the place to ask the questions and not get bagged out. It is so easy just to go to a workshop and pay someone to do it their way. I reckon the Modified Car Shows would be a boring place if we all did the same thing.

I look forward to reading about the conversion.

    Regards

schmick, ever tried to start a carby fed 308 on a 7 degree morning? My ute still wont idle properly even when i get to work.

My EFI car on the other hand...

Even the most advanced carby car known to man (mighty magna ASTRON II) still has bucket loads of problems due to the mechanical nature of the fuel delivery setup.

Plus you will spin a big end bearing on the 3S way before any electrical sensor will stuff up!
