    Default Swap or Rebuild?

Hi there, i'm Kraft from Malaysia. I have an '82 Toyota Carina Coupe running on a 1G GTE 5 speed. Thing is, i sort of screwed the engine up. Didn't take the oil temperature into concern & hence i guess, sort of causing my con-rod bearing to give away. Checked with a mechanic here & he certified it's indeed something related to the con-rod, if not the bearing. There's a terrible rattling sound whenever the rev goes more than 2500rpm-3000rpm. But anyways, i'd like to know from some of you folks who may know something on 1G GTE upgrades. I've taken up the idea of swapping the engine as it only cost about Rm800-Rm900 for solely an engine block. Is there any upgrade that's probably worth the consideration to make the engine more reliable.. oh btw, it's for drift purposes.

Or do you think a rebuild would be the better choice? If so, what are the parts that should be taken into concern to further strengthen the 1G?

    Thanks.

    Thats a great statement

If it was me i would probably swap it out as 1G's are pretty cheap over here, but i guess a rebuild would make sure that your motor is good and your not buying someone elses problems, i guess it all depends on how bad your motor is, if there is too much damage i would definately go a new one

Bit hard to answer dude, I would go for a rebuild cos I don't like getting someone else's problems, but if it was a massive price difference over there then the $$$ will have to play into your decision.

Well, for now i guess the only problem is the con-rod bearing. Rm800-Rm900 for a used engine block would probably be around AUS$300-AUS$400. Is that cheap? How much would a rebuil cost. I'd like to have a rigid engine.

    Thanks.

$300-$400 would be cheap for a running motor by our standards, a full rebuild would set you back at least $1500 if you were doing the work yourself, a lot more if someone else does the work!
