Default Alternator conv. and general elecky gremlins

I am hoping this is a normal sort of a problem, my alt is blowing fuses at idle and charging 14.5v on a low battery, so i fitted a 100A circuit breaker and that is now tripping too. I have taken said GT4 alt to the sparky whom has tested the reg. and said it was fine. Added this is fitted to an old remote reg. SA63 celica and i have followed the FAQ conversion to this system, but it seems something is a miss

So question one is, the six wires that went to the old remote reg. did any need to be reinstated into the system?
and further symptoms include a lack of dash lights and headlights as well as my pop up lights having a mind of their own? maybe this is a separate issue altogether??
I hope someone has some ideas to help with this

I wired up a car with old external regulator with a new internal reg alternator for a mate once and it had a 100amp breaker on it. That would often trip it. We thought something must be wrong, had alternator checked, trippled checked wiring etc, but all was fine. So in the end we fitted a 150 amp breaker and it never tripped again.

Odd as I think the alternator is only rated at 80amps or something...

It can be that when the alternator "clicks into life" at full charge, it might produce a massive "rush current" that exceeds the 100A C.B. overload limits my mere moments..... kind of like an electric motor, but in reverse.

Make sure that the 3 wires you have selected from the old external regulator plug ARE correct

hmmm seems like a similar thing going on, i have heard some 3S alternators are 80A and some 110A maybe your mate had that one? How do i tell what the rating is on this alt.?

question 2: Should the curcuitbreaker be between the alt and the splice into the ancilliarys or between the ancillarys and the battery because that is where the old fuseable link used to be, so i've put it there. I am worried that if it trips the breaker the charge will go back through the rest of the electricals and fry more fuses??
