    Default Clutch Master/c

    ok my problem is this..
i bought my RA60 from a girl who told me the clutch m/c might be stuffed.. got it
home, check around the clutch pedal and all the carpet was wet and screwed so it
    needed replacing..

i Replaced that with a PBR item which broke 2 weeks after, i bought a rebuild kit for it
and rebuilt it.. the seal on the end of the "push rod" was what broke..

put that in and it still didnt work so gave up on that and bought another PBR Unit..
2 weeks later the exact same thing happened. (lost both receipts for those two)
then got another PBR unit which dont the same thing but in about 3 weeks.. i couldnt
be fucked going to take it back because that was the last one they had in stock because
PBR dont make them for my car anymore.. and i dont and will never buy PBR again
    anyway.

at the same time as that one broke i also broke my slave, replaced that witih a PBR.. (god help me) unit and im pretty sure its fucked..

but anyway, i took the m/c out of my other celica that has been defected for 3 years now
and the clutch fluid was like mud.. cleaned it out and put it on my other celica..
worked find for about 2 months now and just died.. was on my way home from work and
put it into 2nd pulling up at lights and it just went straight to the floor..

ive gone through 5 m/c's since i have had it (inc the one on it when i got it) and two
    slaves..

im not thrashing the crap out of it or clutch kicking it so i dont know why they are
    just... crapping out..

anything better quality or something that i can get from another toyota that wont break..?
or does anyone know if Toyota still makes them and how much they cost?

    Cheers, Jason.

is it the same failure every time? maybe your pedal is allowing too much travel of the "push rod" into the master cyl. this can be adjusted, perhaps have a look?

What sort of brake fluid are you using? If you are using Dot5 or synthetic fluid it can damage normal seals. In my experiences PBR is about as good as you can get for quality. What is happening to the seals? Are they splitting or going soft or just wearing out?

yep its the exact same failure every time
we thought about that, but the m/c i got from my other celica has been on there since it
was rolling off the factory floor and i didnt adjust that or mess with it...

you mean clutch fluid? will check
they are splitting, the first time it happened there was actually a little chuck of the seal
    in with the fluid..

Maybe they are old stock from pbr and the seals have half perished before you buy them
Surely they would coat them with some type of grease to stop it but a ra60 master cylinder wouldnt exactly be a fast moving part
Also as Dazza said use dot 3 fluid

Does this MC design have its reservoir on the end of the cylinder, not in the middle?
If so, then that seal, about 10mm OD, has a cage over it so that spring pressure lightly covers the port to the reservoir & then fluid pressure, not mechanical pressure, seals it completly. That 'push rod' dosn't push at all, it just a guide that slides into a hole in the piston, to position the seal to the port. Or is this seal on the piston, about 19 mm in diameter?

You're going to have to figure out how that MC operates and then figure out what you are doing wrong. Bottoming out the piston because the pedal's pushrod is too long shouldn't break that seal, but may hurt the cage that supports it and the clip that holds it to the piston. With breaking 5 of them, and at that a part that I'd consider impossible to break, learning how it & all its pieces actually work is the only way to correct it, other then having someone else do it. If your friends have been 'helping', ditch'em & go to the library for an auto tech traing manual. There isn't any thing else better or magic that will work if you continue to fuck it up.
