    Default Corona Alternator

    Hi all

I need to rebuild my alternator with something more substantial to support the amount of useage it handles.

I have a stock 18rc alternator which I think runs 60-65amps, basically I need atleast 30more amps. I've been told some old falcon alternator internals fit inside the housing, can anyone tell me if this is true or what alternator I can look for to handle my needs.

    Cheers
    Az

A few people have done an EA falcon alternator into the first gen celicas, its just a bit of modifying the mounts to make it work but not too hard. The EA has an 85amp, but theyre not all 85 amp so if you go for one make sure you check the stamp on it. I'm not sure what the corona set up is like, but if you take some measurements I can measure up the EA alt for you as I have one here.

    Cheers, Matt

if the corona is a Bosch large format alternator, then you can swap the guts in.
eg, you can put the guts of a falcoon XF alt into a KE70 alternator.. just need longer bolts to hold the casing together and still use the KE70 rear bracket. yopu still use the front half of the KE70 alt, so the alignment with pulley is as stock..

if the corona has a cast bracket as part of the housing, it is easier.

which type of alt is it?

The stock 18rc alternators from memory are an externally regulated alternator which means you may be able to fit the falcon alternator parts to the housing, but the wiring will be wrong. I might be wrong but you might have to change the wiring etc. to suit.

Changing from externally regulated to internally is really easy, just a few soldered wires and a cleaner engine bay
