ms53wagon, it should fully open when you turn the car off. Try pulling it off and spraying some carby or throttle cleaner in it to free it up. If that doesn't work it may need replacing.

wasfishing, not sure about your problem as my aircon is not linked to my ecu. Someone may be able to offer some advise if you provide some more info, like is it standard a/c or had an engine conversion?

cheers 1JZ LUX, ive tried a couple different ISCV's and i dont think thats the prob.....the engine is in a ms53 crown so im a little worried the wiring may be amiss somewhere?? having said that i know the ECU will move the ISCV towards the closed position, leading me to believe the wires are all hooked up.

im thinkin its a prob with the ECU??? anyones thoughts on that?

    cheers

the car will never idle when cold either, pain in the butt...!

I suspect that you haven't wired the ECU to use the M-REL output on the ECU to switch the main relay that provides power to the ECU (and other things)

The ECU is meant to stay on for a short period after you switch the engine off so that it can control (Fully open) the ISCV valve

    cheers guys,

i have changed the caps in the ECU, so hopefully that little prob is fixed (they were leaking quite alot).

Wilbo666, How do i wire the M-REL, i got a copy of the ECU pinouts the other day to check over things (as i didnt wire up the car) and im pretty sure the M-REL wasnt wired up....?.

Is this the ground for the "+B - switched power"???

    any ideas..

thanks, i feel like im getting to the bottom of this problem....hopefully

The early 1JZ ISCVs (not sure about later 1s) can't be taken apart. I'm currently working on making a spare one I have pull apartable. I drilled the retaining pin holes all the way through and knocked the pins out of a spare one I have and have cleaned it up. I just need to get new pins and put it back together.

You could try spraying some carbi/throttle cleaner through it and check all the ISCV power connections but if it idles fine without the A/C then it probably isn't the ISCV.

How often do the revs change? It's not the A/C automatically switching on and off is it?

I'm surprised none of the gurus here actually know of this but...

Head down to Subaru (Yes, I know, it's a Toyota forum, shut up, and read on)
Go to the spares/servicing section, and buy a few cans of Subaru Upper Engine cleaner.

Now head back home (Or out to some place you can't annoy people)
Unplug the line that goes to the ISCV from your intake piping (So you have a flexible hose going to the ISCV you put shit in!)
Spray for around 1 minute down into this pipe with the upper engine cleaner from Subaru.

    Leave it for around 5minutes.
Come back, start the motor up (It's going to be a bitch, you'll need to use the throttle, it's going to cough and splutter.) Get someone to hold the revs up around 4000RPM whilst it's doing this, and continue to spray the remaining amount of the can down that small pipe.

Once the can is empty, plug the hose back in.
    Job done.

Please note, this procedure causes ALOT of black shit to be spat out your exhaust, as not only does it clean the ISCV, but your head and everything to the point when you pull it apart, things are going to look brand new.

That almost sounds like something you could do any time though right? Interesting to know

Yeah, it works great if you have a bit of a poor running motor.

Saves ripping the ISCV off the motor.

    Interestingly, we did a comparo.

Pulled mates ISCV off, and my ISCV off, equally dirty. Put his back on his motor
Put the Subaru cleaner through a mates car.
And cleaned mine with a brush, carby cleaner, CO Cleaner, and something else.

Then pulled my mates off, and his was sparkling clean, where as mine still had some shit built up in it.

Bolted mine back to my motor, did the subaru cleaner. Pulled mine off. Looked brand new and sparkling clean... Oh, and less effort!

get yourself some gasket paper and make your own deano, takes a few minutes and be better than the goo for sure.

RE tips for the hoses, I suggest undoing them for sure.
