Hi,
What should I be setting the prelaod at on the carryer bearings in an F (7.5") diff at ? As it just a taper bearing I dont suppose its supposed to be very high... Bit like a wheel bearing just do it up then give it a little nip???? ( bearings are new).
At the moment due to the little locking tabs and the little amount of play between then and the little holes in the adjusting nuts, (originaly out of an 83 XX gt Celica), it goes from having just a little slack in the adjuster to beinging just and im mean just nipped up. Obviously I dont wont them to lose or to tight and damage the bearings. When I pulled it down they needed a bit of a tap with a with a punch and hammer to turn the adjusters, but that could have been due to 20 years of sitting there...
Again due to the adjustment nuts and the locking tabs that you bolt over them ive set the backlash at about 0.123 mm, recomended standard is 0.13 - 0.18mm and im just over or just under unless i cut and weld the little tab to adjust where the adjusting nuts are held. Would 0.123...ish be ok? Its now got a Kaaz 1 way lsd in it, (was originaly a single spinner), so I dont know if the lsd oil will affect the backlash... Is lsd oil any thicker or thinner??
Thanks
