Did the car used to have an alarm on it? cos it could just be from an old system
Just about to check out my leaking water pump, and I found a relay sitting under the battery with three disconnected wires.
The relay is BOSCH 0 332 019 150 12V 30A.
Wires disconnected near it lead back to a coil, connected to the ignition. The three wires are Black, Red (out of same heatshrink) and a second Black.
Could any AE82 owners (or people who know the car) let me know how they should be hooked up.
Thanks.
EDIT : I should also mention that there it is a 5 pin relay, with a 4th wire to earth.

Don't know, but it looks like part of the current system.
Should have mentioned that it's not starting via key ignition, I'm constantly hill starting.
Dont 5 pin relays have two 87's and they just switch between them ?
Anyway i didn't spot one in my ae82 twincam or the ae92 SX i worked on today.
I'll check it in about 5 mins.
This is a ae82 carbie, and the relay was sitting under the battery tray, saw it when I took it out.
There is two 87's, just want to know what pins I should be wiring too.
so we've established one goes to earth, i'm betting one goes to battery, one goes to starter, and one is the wire that used to go to the starter
it's not a factory relay, so my guess is someone's installed it to boost power to the starter (common issue with old toyotas)

Sounds good Dale, now do you want to hazard a guess as to what wire should connect where ?![]()
pin 87 - positive terminal on battery
pin 86 - ground
85 - connect to starter
30 - connect to wire which originally went to starter

sorry dude but the above post is incorrect.
it should be wired as below
30 = Battery (preferably with a fuse rated slightly below the wires current rating)
87 = Starter soleniod (make sure it doesn't have 87a {or if it does dont use it} as that is a 5 pin switchover relay and just alternates between the two and if it was on the "a" pin it would hold the starter on)
85 = ground/earth
86 = original starter soleniod wire
85 and 86 can be switched over without causing harm (or atleast i havn't had probs yet) as they are just the trigger.
cheers

And yes, it's a straight 87 pin, not an 87a.
I'll probably wire it tonight after work, gotta start at 10,
Again thanks boys, I honestly wasn't expecting a solution so quickly !
Just did it, worked just as you said it would Roadrunner ! Rep for you !
(Not that you need it)
cheers, I didn't think what I posted sounded right, I just copied it from another threadOriginally Posted by The Real Roadrunner

Bloody thing is still not starting 100% of the time, seems like when it's hot ?
Oh, and if anyone can point out a quick and easy way to bypass the thermo fan relay and leave the fans on, let me know.
clean the body earths and unplug the white plug on the gearbox for the thermo's
