Thanks for that. I was concerned about the procedure. I'll just get them flow tested and find the best 6.Originally Posted by oldcorollas

I think the main issue with side feed injectors is the fact that not many shops have a flow machine to test them after they have been ultrasonicaly cleaned. In addition, they seem to be more difficult to clean then standard top feed injectors anyway so that only compounds the problem.
If you get then cleaned AND flowed there shouldn't an issue.
i'm not saying that cleaning per se is bad, just that sometimes the results are not so good, but some shops seem to always do well, so it's important to check up that they do a good job firstOriginally Posted by TTMX83

Cleaning is worthwhile but unless you get them flow checked you have missed half the point.
If you have several to choose from select the ones that have the closest flow rates - this will give you the best results.

That's right. The shop that did mine couldn't do a spray test because they were side feed. Seems pretty stupid to me as I think there would be a fair few cars with side feed injectors. Maybe not as many but still a fair few.Originally Posted by Grant
Even something as common as a Tarago has side feed injectors!
OK, another question. What should I take note of when reinstalling them?? I have a new set of o-rings and dampers/insulators coming. Given the hassle it was of getting them out, I really don't want to have to do it again.
Cheers Brad.
1) Replace all the o-rings
2) Check for leaks
3) Double check for leaks

Assuming it's similar to the 1G, I usually put the dampeners into the retainer spots in the head, then I clip the injectors into the rail (make sure you use some rubber grease as to not damage the new o-rings). I then press the rail into the dampeners making sure that all the injectors are seated correctly. Then do as Starfire said, check for leaks...then do it again![]()

CLOSEST not HIGHEST. Precision is more important. Also abnormally high flow is just as good a sign that an injector is rooted as low flow. Its just a lot more common for them to gunk up (low) than to corode (high) or fail other ways.
meh...
I had mine cleaned and flow tested when I still had the motor in the front cut, came back one was a little dodgy, so I bought another and all is well.
Cost me $20 each - dropped them off on the tuesday arvo, got a call on Wednesday morning saying one was dodge, gave him the go ahead to replace it and they were ready with flow rates on Wednesday arvo (even got the dodge one back and not charged for that test - just the 6 good ones)
i had my plenum off my 1J for a reason, and figured it couldnt hurt to check my injectors, fuel rail, return regulator ect ect... with all the injectors out i noticed ALL of the o-rings were mangled, they seemed quite thin and hard aswell. i carby cleaned all the injectors and fitted new fatter o-rings and everything is tip top. there doesn't seem to be any difference performance wise, and i mixed up the injectors for good fun.
I didn't even think to have them professionally cleaned or 'flowed' as there was no problem with them in the beginning.
