good question. i just went out to my shed i have a N/ A 2j and im looking at the oil system and theres no cooler. i unscrewed the oil filter and no relief valve like you say.Originally Posted by manny
hmmmm i wonder if this valve is even here? but all hydraulic filter systems should have a filter blockage bypass relif valve.......
i then thought maybe its in the filter so i hack sawed it in half and in the bottom of this filter is your engine saving relif valve!!!!!!!!!!!!.
now this filter is a "union" brand filter, C-171M part no
does the 2jzgte filter have this valve?
i use a z418 in my 1.5jz. i dont know if the z418 has this valve built in???????????.
does anyone have an old filter they can cut open and check?(i dont wat to pull mine off as it only new and ive already chucked the old one out)
so thanks very much manny,
they say you learn somthin new everyday and tobay i can say i learnt that some(maybe all????) spin on filters will bypass themselves when blocked![]()

let me now edit that statment i made earlier![]()

about "making sure you keep the oil cooler) "if you use a filter that has a built in internal relief valve you can now throw that cooler away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The OEM filters certainly sure do and I would be vey surprised if even the cheapest and nastiest of aftermarket filters didn't.Originally Posted by al167

The EPC lists the valve you're refering to as an oil cooler relief valve
