    Default Bending brake lines.

    Hi everyone,

What do you use to bend brake lines? I need to modify my existing lines to match with a new master cylinder. Without buying an expensive tool, is there an easy way to do this?

    Thanks

You can buy cheap pipe benders at super-crap and swap meets for around $10. They will do the trick.

I bent and re-routed my steel lines in the engine bay last night.

I just used my hands and slowly worked on each bend being careful not to try for too tight a radius.

The pipe bending tools arent much though for the hand held ones good for up to about 12mm OD tube (you'd struggle on a steel line with that diameter and this tool, copper tube is fine though). I think it was <$40.

    Here is what i do...

    1. put your mc in and make up some new lines using some stiff wire (coat hangers work well)
    2. work out the lengths and get a friendly brake shop to flare the ends with nuts BEFORE bending. If you come to them with a pre bent pipe they might not be able to flare the ends because they need around 3 or 4 inches of straight pipe to flare
    3. see if you can borrow the tool they use to bend up the lines it allows you to create tight radius bends that the cheap tools cant do so it looks much neater and factory like.
    4. Bolt it on and bend slightly by hand if required

    hope this helps

you can use a broom handle, small rods, to make the bends also, its also rather easy to work it with your hands.

YOU will also need a FLARING tool for the master/fittings,

The fittings are fine, because they are the same size. I've bend them by hand in the past, but this time I have to do a sharp bend with not much length to play with.

I might have to buy this http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/563.cfm
except I have to wait and won't be able to do any work on the car over the nice long Easter Holiday
