    Default Gen 3 3s-gte cams into Gen 2 3s-gte??

Got hold of a set of gen 3 3s-gte cams out of an sw20 today, wondering if they would be a worthwhile upgrade into my gen 2 3s-gte sw20 motor.

Any1 know if this is A. possible as a straight swap and B. whether it is an upgrade or not?

I havent actually measured em up or anything yet and was hoping someone might already know before i start trying to figure it out for myself.

    Cheers

they have more lift and duration but not by heaps.

not sure if straight fit, you would have to measure the journal and lobe centres as well as sizes.

if the base circle is bigger or smaller by 1mm forget about it and get some 264's as the time+$$$ you spend setting them up wont be worth it in the long run imho.

    cheers

Ps if you put up some measurements i can Xreference them to a gen2

I asked a similar question a while ago a didn't get a definitive answer, mine was gen 1 cams into gen 2 as I had some 264deg gen 1's. from what I have heard gen 1 and 3 are interchangeable but gen 2 uses larger buckets and the cam lobes are a lot bigger but the bearing points are the same. So maybe I could make it work with much thicker shims

Cheers guys i'l get some measurements up tonight, sounding like its not gunna be a straight fit though.
I hadent planned on putiing cams in the motor anyway but i got these at the right price so thought it might be worth a try.

    Cheers

ive put a set in a gen2 head, the major thing is if they foul on the casting of the head i think. Im my case it was fine with plenty of clearance.

The Gen2 and Gen3 stock cams will fit into either head. The Gen1 cams will only work in a Gen1.

The gen3 cam differences are 0.5mm more lift and ~4degrees more duration on the intake. Plus the stock timing of the exhaust cam is 6 degrees retarded compared to the Gen 2 cam, but the profile is unchanged at least in duration and lift, rates may not be identicle.

Aftermarket cams that state they are for the Gen3 will not fit in the majority of Gen2 heads as the casting was changed for Gen3 to give more clearance for the cam lobe to the outer parts of the casting.

So in this instance do you think that using just the gen 3 inlet cam in my gen 2 motor i may be slighty better off than the standard cam? and then leave the exhaust cam standard?

To tell the truth I think the 6 degrees of retard on the exhaust cam is more useful than the intake cam. However I haven't done any back to back testing, this is just based off the results I have seen from using adjustable gears with the stock cams.

Hmm ok then thats interesting, maybe i should order a set of cam gears too........hmmm dunno.
So would the extra .5mm lift and tad more duration be any better on the intake side at all? or would it risk being worse off?

will give a small gain but a gain is a gain, if you have them put them in.

and you will gain uber cool points because your mod list will state "gen 3 cams"

they freed up my old gen2 a little - it was worttyh the effort to get that particular head ready for the HKS cams that will be going now into y gen3 ..
if you have them and have time to do a shim under conversion - put them in !
