Also any tips from people who've done this before... I've already got the box pulled down and have a service manual en route... but any tips/pointers would be great.
Hi guys
I've got a noisy W58, I've identified the troublesome bearing but while it's apart I'll look to rebuild it. Anyone know where you can get rebuild kits for these... bearing shop? Somewhere online? Or Toyota only?
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....

I haven't really seen a 'rebuild kit' for W58's before although places like Marlin Crawler(google) sell them for R154 well any Rblah series box. Maybe they could help you, alternatively try and match your bearings at somewhere like CBC.

I've priced a rebuild locally and it's $880 inc GST, or a rebuild kit is $440 inc GST if I want to do it myself.
Aside from disassembly & reassembly with the new parts, the only other thing they do is deglaze the synchros.... so for half the price I'm thinking I'll try my hand at it.
Either that, or try my chances with an ex-wreckers W55/57/58 which you can sometimes luck onto for $150-$300.

The online TSRM for MA61 has the rebuild guide...pretty sure

Have a look at this kit from the states. Not sure if it contains all the needed parts as it says it does not include 2 toyota parts. However it seems to have all syncros and bearings
