if its a fullysikhetikwoosh vavle (which it looks like) then you will hear them leaking without a map signal on them, they whistle like a bastard (=annoying) and there will be a distinct lack of power also as it will run waaay rich.

hmmmm isnt that what i said ??

I think i see how what i said is confusing though

Mabe i need to explain myself more ....... wouldnt be the first time

...... If a car is left to idle or free rev and the BOV is not connected to a MAP source the valve should not open unless....... the turbo is generating 4 psi boost a idle to overcome the BOV spring pressure and push it open.

The BOV would be working similar to a external wastegate.Youd need to reach a certain pressure to push the valve open.

Mabe on cheaper BOV's the slight rush of air in the intake pipe is enough to lift it from its seat ? Im pretty sure mine dont budge at all. ...... but in saying that my BOV is basicly a external wastegate

i had the same prob Reece with my Tial BOV, i would get air coming back through the turbo but when i revved the car at idle and shut the throttle while watching the BOV, i could see the valve fully opening.

what i did was remove the cold start injector (i have aftermarket ecu whic doesnt use it) and put a barbed fitting in so that the BOV had a dedicated vacuum source, this fixed the problem completely.

    *in the voice of the fat bus driver on billy madison* that is correct!!!! {starts removing singlet}

yeah you had me kinda confused when you said it will open under 0vac.

if you drive it with the map line removed it shouldleak as its only got spring pressure on it.

    cheers

i am gonna try to use the brake booster vaccum tomorrow to see if the valve will pull up with a decent vaccum.. The gfb has no tensioner its non adjustable one.. Kev thanks for the info its the brake booster lines doesnt work i will tap in a 3/8 slug and give it a dedicated vaccum as i dont wanna loose my beautiful cold start

Im pretty sure all gfb bov are adjustable.

Pull off the vaccum line and wind out the fitting on the top of the bov to the maximum amount before the thred comes right out then screw only the nut back down.

Read this on adjusting the spring-preload

I've been running my BOV reference off that three port fitting on the head in the same spot as you for years and have used a few different BOV's too - worked fine on all of them.

What size is the main port on that three port fitting?? I recall drilling mine out as it had a restrictor in it (or I could be dreaming?).

they often have restrictors to provide a more stable signal.. for things that don7t need much volume...

i think you might be onto something
