    Default spacers, grinding a caliper

Im having a few clearance issues on my front rims against the caliper, and i was wondering if you guys could explain to me why spacers or grinding my caliper down would be a bad idea?

    what car is it ???

i run sapcers so does 90% of the drift cars out there just go out and grab ya self some bolt on spacers not only will it fix the problem but it'll widen your track or find your self some better offset wheels

    bolt on spacers teh good
    slip on teh danger

id choose spacers over calipers 100% of the time, but even still. im not a fan of spacers. no reason inparticular. its jus an anal thing, i dont trust them for one reason or another

id be looking at different rims way before considering driving around on spacers full time... especially hard driving...

oh.. your in adelaide... thats ok then

seriously, grinding 3mm off a caliper is not a good idea.
a 3mm spacer, whilst not ideal, should be ok if the rims and still kept concentric to the hub BY the spacer.

or you could get the correct whels to start with? it really is the better option if it is at all physically possible to do it....

also for such a thin spacer, there is a possible option of physically attaching it to the rim itself....
but afaik, spacers are still defectable

i,d go the spacer route , but only if the wheel still sits on the spigot of the hub/drum ....if it doesn,t your wheel studs bear the full load and this can lead to some interesting happenings

I'm not so sure on the spigot loading thing, I've seen cars without any central spigot (particularly on the back) and I've run wheels which don't come anywhere near it and never had a problem.

i dont partcicularly want to grind 3-4mm off my caliper, so i think a combination of a 3mm spacer + a very small amount of grinding will be my solution.

    these volk racing ones.
    pic.

when i went to test fit them before buying, we could only test them on the rears, couldnt test the fronts as they had locknuts on them.

Bolt on's are frowned apon, but not defectable.

Basically, the problem with the slip ons, is that they leave a gap around the spacer, between the rim and the hub, so it looks like its just floating there.

where as bolt ons are solid, relatively safe (overkill for street applications) and full contact botht the hub and rim mounting face.

i know this, because i had a cop look at mine, i told him what they were and he moved on, i even asked about the slip ons, and he said they're the dangerous ones.

the fuinny thing was, the fronts were 17's and had a bolt on spacer/pcd changer on them.

the rears... 16's had a 25mm bolt on spacer, anodized BRIGHT PURPLE! and i found out later, they had a slip on behind them... needless to say, i was shocked, dodgy is correct!

had car for 4 months or so, been stopped twice, had the car looked over twice, never got a comment, ignoring the small one i got to cover the light my temp guage was producing.
