    Default corona suspension problem

    guys,

after working all week to have the car ( B1 ) ready to have a play at nirimba tafe today, i discovered a problem on my way there

it appears the lower control arms are moving ( I'm not sure if it's castor rod or mounting point failure ). now it's got me stumped what's causing it, all looks and feels tight under there.

it's the most amazing feeling though. to get to 10km/h and have the whole front of the car lift up like it's on wings.

tried toe in, toe out and different wheels to no avail. any ideas on how to rectify the situation so i can get out to oran park next weekend ??

i worked all day at it trying to solve the issues but to no avail. can someone tell me what's causing the car to lift the front end when driving along. the wheels are wobbling around to.

i have checked that everything is tight.
    checked wheel bearings
    checked castor rods
    checked bushes

nothing is loose . what oh what can it be ????

the only thing i can think of is that the sr20 is lighter than the 1X which may mean the standard suspension is now to soft in the front. and sitting to high.

should i just cut of a ring or 2 of the standard spring ???

Check to see if you have a hairline crack in the mount. You need a hoist and a strong light. If you need to lower or change spring rate buy a pair. Cost is 150- 250 dollars. Springs fatigue over time and loose their hardness. Choping springs is illegal and stupid. Also check bushes and all steering joints. If you can't find the problem take it to Pedder's Suspension for a 28 point safety check. Only $14. They will check front and rear shock wear rates, All steering and suspesion and give you a written report. What you do next is up to you. Definately find the cause of the problem.

    FIXED.

some simple maths came to the rescue.

some simple maths to the rescue.
old engine and box weight = x
new engine and box weight = y
    spring rate = a
    ride height = Z

therfore "a" is designed to hold "x" at "z"
but when "x" is replaced with "y" this changes "z".
in our case "y" < (less than) "x"
    so "z" is now higher.

at first guess i thought it was around 100kg difference in engine weight. but after piling on the weight at the front it looks to be more like 200+kg of weight difference between the 1X and auto box and the sr20de with manual box.

loaded the car up with 200kg strapped to the bonnet and all seams to be well. more testing will be done tomorrow. also going to try cutting spring height to lower the ride height. hoping this might solve the problem till some suitable rate springs can be located/bought/borrowed.

took 2rings out of the car and it now sits 2 inches lower. perfect for the up-comming tarmac motorkhana. but i'll be getting some new sprigs with a higher ride height and lower spring rate before the next dirt event !!! got to get as much clearance as possible !!!
