1jz Dumps Fitment

Finally fitted... lol i got an oil leak sumwhere hope i didnt damage the oil lies damn load without the rest of the exhaust lol.....this job i wouldnt like to try again!! then again maybe petes pipes would fit easier

Check the return lines for the turbos, when I did mine I didn't notice it for a few weeks until it got bigger and bigger but one of the hoses going to the y piece on the block had gone hard and cracked while I was doing the pipes. After about 2 weeks I saw a huge trail of oil when I reversed parked one day, Was a pita to fix but I manged to get in from under the car and replace both hoses by cutting off the old ones and sliding some new hoses with heavy duty clamps on.

yeh tell me abt it PITA!!! yeh thats what i suspected, also the rubber turns hard and brittle this job seem difficult.... ohwell time to degrease it all anyways and it will show up.... another point i had to modify my dumps to fit the holes didnt line up exact...and i didnt get bolts to bolt the dumps to the front pipe??

What needed to be done to fit these? as im soon going to fit them like this week.

I have the exact same ones, they didn't line up 100% but I just hammered them in, fit okay but they won't be coming off in a hurry. I had to take it to an exhaust shop after it was fitted because it didn't all line up from the frontpipe so they cut and welded a few sections to make it fit but still good for the price.

Yeh what u sorta expect from the price. Hengsta i just redrilled the holes on the manifold to make it fit. then again i only managed to get 7 out of 8 studs bak on the turbos. yeh the front pipe is very tight fit mine rubs agains my under body but i managed to bolt it up ...just. and hengsta be ready for a really fustrating weekend. and u will HAVE 2 shift one of the turbos to get the manifold in even. well hengsta ill try to make a writing up though im missing alot of pictures of how i got mine in

Can't remember what the funny looking nuts are called but they are designed to increase the surface area of the contact surfaces of the nut and allow more torque to be applied to it. A standard socket of spanner will still fit them as you found out.
With installing my dumps (I had Pete's Pipes) I took the turbos off then removed the Y pipe. Then refitted the turbos and was able to fit the Pete's Pipes in between the turbos. My dramas were that I was trying to fit MX83 (Cressida) 1JZ dumps on a RN85 (Hilux) 1JZ. So lots of modding them and the exhaust. The trick to getting at all the nuts I found was to have a large range of tools. I used 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" socket sets with uni joints and heaps of different extension lengths as well as spanners (some cut to the length that would fit) and ratchet spanners.

Are you putting the studs back in? Should just replace them with bolts for easier removal.

but for petes pipes i understand the good fitment of them cause its got aonther flange on one of the pipes from the trubo (think its the front turbo dump pipe) which makes it easier to fit the twin dumps.

Yeah Pete's Pipes consist of a dump pipe for each turbo and a Y pipe, so you can install each pipe seperately.

sorry i didnt see your post earlier to offer fitting advice but you have been steered true by the experienced guys that offered help.

perhaps the chinese might buy my jig and provide pipes that fit.........it was perfected eventually for 3 or 4 popular 1j modded toyotas.
i reckon that the easiest way to fit is to bite the bullet,allow the time []have a replacement car so you are not under pressure] remove everything thats in the way,drain the coolant and do an oil change so you are not leaking shit everywhere everytime you need to remove another coolant or oil line.
remove the front turbo,gains access to the troublesome rear turbo,still twist it like jabtronic said.definitely the variety of tools as 1jz lux stated.
A huge help if the replacement dump pipe doesnt line up 100% is to loosen both 3 bolt stock turbo manifolds at the block to utilise the small amount of flexibility these have.Plus they have very strong bolts so you can actually pull a dump pipe into shape via these bolts to a small extent.
My congratulations go out to anyone that has self fitted a 1j dump pipe.Its usually a much bigger job than planned for.

Finished installing my china spec 1j dumps friday. It was hitting onto the engine mount before, but had to make a grove into it where it was hitting. Lucky my engine is out of the car which makes it alot easier to fit (still was frustrating) so i imagine the engine was in the car . I also heat wraped my dump just incase. All i need to finish it off it a oil hose fron the rear turbo, went to a few places already and nothing they have wont fit

I've actually got one of the original "Pete's Pipes" for my car. Must have been nearly 4 years ago I bought them .. I was also the one of 2 that had the prototypes before too that got sent back after the other prototype fouled on another guys.

FYI I did run into a problem with them that we are about to fix, the flange hits on the subframe cover on hard left cornering. The fix will just be extending the pipe down a bit further and rotating the flange.

p.s. yep took me about 3 years after buying to actually fit them Pete LOL
