    Oil pump packed with vasoline

Plug re-installed with threadlocker. Notice the water pump inlet blocked off by the machinist thinking it was for a welch plug.

Pump installed with gasket and seal

    Baffle tray installation.

    Oil strainer

    Sump installed

ARP studs in. One screwed in tight, but hopefully should be ok

Smallport head. Ported intake and exhaust with TODA valve springs and oversized valves

    Stock cams in and lubed

Camshaft seal - moly grease on the inner surface plus sealant in the corners

Cam covers, courtesy of craved coatings

What's the thought behind vaseline in the oil pump?

It helps the oil pump suck the oil up from the sump on first start up so oil pressure builds quickly...

Because everybody knows that 'more is better' always, either that or because they are clueless! Sure the pump needs something so it's not bone dry & can use a light smear of grease on its gears, lobes & running surfaces, but packing it, ports & all, is useless overkill.
I can only hope that excess doesn't cause the filter bypass to open.
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
