    Default 4age Tps?

Hey people, I've run into another hurdle with my rebuild, the cars at the tuners but my TPS has died and he's having trouble getting another one. I think the one I have is the small port TB same as the one on the right>

I was wondering if the TPS is interchangeable between the different 4A throttle bodies? or any other Toyota's for that mater. I'm scared to think how much a new one from Toyota would cost, if available. I'll also start a wanted to buy thread if anyone has one they want to part with.

This thread looks similar to one i was about to create so i thought i'd just resussitate it.

OK...... 4age TPS's there's three different kinds i've already sunk so low as to buy one from toyota but like i said there's three different kinds and while i'm reletivly sure that my engine is the original bigport 4age from an '86 AE82 twincam. Toyota can't tell me which TPS goes on which engine and they're not interchangable AND i can't return it if it's wrong.

I assume/ hope someone on here has run into the same problem somewhere along the line and would be able to help me by telling me which TPS goes on my engine by means of a part number or general discription or something.

Any help here would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hey guys

Not sure if this is relevant for you as i have a aftermarket computer but i was in a similar dilema.
The tps that was on my bigport was faulty and i had a spare one off a smallport. Now the difference between the two was that the bar that gets turned by the throttle was facing in different directions. One was up down and the other was left right (can't remember which one was which sorry).
But if you remove the nut which holds it on the bars can be changed from one tps to the other, effectively turning a bigport tps into a smallport one and vice versa.
I did this and have not had any problems.

    Hope this helps

    that'd be rad!

I hope that's true. then i can get one and if it doesn't work flip it around. i know that my loom has a square plug with four pins so that eliminates one of the three choices.

if not... i'll flog it off on ebay, haha

    Thanks man.

The smallport (100kw) 4AGE TPS part number should be 89452-12050.
This cross references to a 1UZ TPS as well. It also has a sub part number of 89452-33010 which is found on the 1JZ engine. Just a few more options for you.

hmm turns out that my gamble didn't pay off,
it doesn't look like the bar can just be turned, as it's grooved so it stays in one place.

unless you know of anotherway i think i'm just gonna have to get the other one.

Wedged'86: My understanding from Schmitt post was that the bar could be changed, between the different tps, not turned around to face the right way. Maybe your old bar will fit in the new one and form the two, you can make one good one

    Hi

Lachie's interpretation is correct. That is what i meant. The two bars are grooved in different directions and can be changed from one to the other. Sorry if my post confused you.

    Ohhhhhh,
unless the Tps's have changed slightly over the years but the one i have doesn't have a nut holding the bar/turny thing on but rather a sort of rivet head, or something that can't be undone.
Anyway i don't have an old TPS which was half my problem in the first place cause i didn't know the part no.

Thanks for your help guys, at least i know which one it is now, hahaha

Hey mate, I actually ended up getting an after market on from Haultech for $70-$80 required mods to fit but if it ever flogs out I can just grab another no worries. Would not like to know how much Toyota would charge after the told me it was gonna cost $260 for a CTS and 6 weeks from Japan

    Cheers

yeah that might be an option, how hard is the modification and will it work with a stock ECU?? probably not.

Can anyone out there who has an AE82 twincam tell me the part number of their TPS

    please??

    Cheers.
