i'll try air pressure first and see how we go
i've tried the gentle tap method too to no avail
not keen on drilling a hole in it, but good suggestion
If it's a hollow one, a tap or wood dowel can be jammed into it.
Inerita should get it out, by hitting the housing in a direction against the way it needs to move out, hitting toward its seat, in the direction of its travel, should back it out if it isn't too bad or smegma'd up.
After cleaning up the valve & bore, it should slide freely and drop out of the bore on its own, with maybe thin lube & a little shake.

have you removed the retainer (part #15135 from diagram). I had some problems getting mine apart to clean and found that i left the retainer in there, once removed it all came tumbling out.
if its jammed, its jammed, you can find new pumps all over the net from $5 and up.
edit: nevermind, i've been speed reading too much lately gotta slow it down.

air pressure for the win
i rigged up some fuel hose to my air compressor air gun and pumped air gently into the main hole blocking the other holes with my fingers and she popped out no problem
getting the thing back in and cleaned - no probs
getting the circlip back on - 1 hour later no probs either :|
here you go, this is how i did it
results speak for themselves...........(piston at the bottom see)
