    His does, mine didn't.

Mine needed earthing to the sender though, earthing the sanwich plate wasn't the issue.

I was wondering what theat screw would be used for - looked quite funny and didnt come on the one i had (didnt actually get to use it as the gauges were stolen).

i knew that screw was for an earth but didnt think much if it, as ts earthed through the oil filter bolt (obviously not good enough),

im now putting YLD's theory to the test, got it apart (coz cant get to teh screw with it in place), just gotta fit up the earth straps,

if you are correct i shall pay you the whole $1.00 in 1c repayments for the total of 100 payments

    let u know soon

been thinking about this, your sandwich plate would not be earthed because of the normally rubber o'ring seal and if you used thread tape to seal the sender. Didnt have any problems with mine because its got a fitting tapped into the block for the oil feed and sender.

no, but the oil filter thread, that the oil sandwich plate bolts to is screwed into the block, so there is an earth in it,

BUT IT STILL HASNT SOLVED IT!!!, FITTED 2 EARTH STRAPS from the filter plate, one to an engine mount bolt to the block, and the other to the body in a random bolt hole,

YLD baby, how did you attatch an earth to the actuall sender unit?

i used a bit of locktight on the sender when fiting it, so will pull the sendr out also, clean the locktight off and retry

OH, also ran out fuel, and was think what have i fucked now, (i have a BAD habbit of running out of fuel with cars that im working on!)

For testing purpose either do what myself of Norbie did and use a cable tie or a hose clamp to attach a wire to the surface of the can that is the sender unit. The attach the other end to some clean body or engine block.

Earthing the sandwich plate and not the sender unit itself didn't help in my case either.

The blue represents a wire with an exposed end attached cleanly to the can of the sender unit and the other end earthed.

The red represent some form of strap to hold it in place.

The orange is a frayed wire end pressed against the can body.

Make sure the can is just a galvanised surface and not clear coated too.

This issue has surfaced on several brands of gauge. Mainly due to the use of threads sealants acting as an insulator.

The Speco stuff works as well as any VDO and Automoter gear I have used.

haha thanks YLD, yeah after re reading it i went back and did excactly what you drew, (only got access to the net when the boss is out of the office 30secs at a time!)

so i earthed the sender unit with the wire and a hose clamp around the sender,

STILL NO BETTER!....AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHH edit, i may try moving the earths.

and the oil pressure tester gauge has lost the fitting that i need! so cant use that, AAARRRRRGGGGHHH! lol

next step will be to remove the sender and clean any residue of loctite off.

also i have the gauges wired up on a single power and single earth lead to teh gauges,

ie one thick RED wire, and one thick BLACK wire, then it splits into 3 smaller of each wires,

yet the water temp and the oil temp gauges seem to work fine,...

for testing i would use a lead with an alligator clip on it and run it back to battery, definate earth that way, just eliminate all variables and see what fixes the problem.
