    Default TA22 Head unit/Speakers.. Who's done what?

Who's done what? I wanna get some idea's of how to mount it, positioning, as well as where and what did you place your speakers in?
I'm thinking fiberglass pods for the doors and the head unit just to the left behind the steering wheel.. Suggestions/Input?

    Cheers

I havent done mine yet, but im planning to put my headunit smack bang in the middle of my custom dash, and splits(front speakers) will be going into the door trims in the front botton corner. One of my doors has previously had the metal hacked out to allow a speaker to sit in there so I'll clean that one up properly and cut another hole in the other one. I know a lot of people make a custom plate/structure thing so that the headunit can be mounted and hidden in the glovebox. Otherwise people cut out the position where the stock radio is mount the headunit there. One thing though - there are heaps of dash facias with the radio cut out so if you have an un cut one and want to allow some people to preserve their classics, either sell it and buy an already cut one or do a swap with someone else. I sold my uncut faschia for $100, a cut one goes for about $30 - $50. Hope that helps mate.

I vote for headunit in custom dash. Either that or the glove box.

For the speakers a set of splits in the front doors and some 6x9's in the parcel shelf.

As pulse said dont go hacking an uncut facia. Besides destroying an already rare item, aftermarket stereos look like arse there.

DONT PUT ANY SPEAKERS IN TEH DOORS!, you kick the shit out of them everytime you get in/out, due to the doors being so long

i ripped em out of the door coz they kept getting bashed, no im left with gapping holes! (previous owner fitted them in VR cooomadooore speaker pods.)

get some 4" and put em under the dash or something,

just put 2 good quality 3 way 6" in the parcel shelf and a small sub/amp in boot, plus you dont have to hack masive holes for the 6x9's

Just get tweeters at the fronts next to the dash vents on the sides and replace the 4x6's in the back. I have pioneer bullets the old series in the shelf 6" or 6 1/2" will do just fine plus it's pretty bassy too. You can do a x over set up for the setup, I have my mini disc and h/u connected to a 4 ch amp and swap between the 2 via 3.5mm stereo h/p jack.
I put my h/u under the plastic tray underneath the glove box and use the remote control.
All together the set up looks neat and tidy that still produces very responsive ambient sounds.

You can put some decent 6x9s on the rear parcel shelf with some stand offs and you dont have to hack anything up. Some small 3" fronts mounted in pods high up on the kick panels. Thats what we are running in the Ta22 with the head unit mounted under the glove box and uses a remote control, so no cutting of the dash or facia

Ideally you want the better speakers in the front so the sound travels towards you.

Think about it. You dont go to a concert and stand away from the stage.

    no head unit FTW.
i replaced the factory hole with a blanking plate from an XT130 Corona. I'm not really interested in tunes - hybrid bigport revving to 7500rpm is music to my ears guys.
i've seen 6x9's put length ways (running the length of the car) in the parcel shelf on 18mm spacers on a custom shelf - they looked (and didn't sound too bad - i don't like 6x9's personally - commodores only) quite good and no metal apparently was needing to be removed.
otherwise tweeters cut into the doors for front stage - with mids down below somewhere - again - two variations could be sitting angled upwards to you in a custom centre console (under the heater) or in the doors (but beware kicking and destroying them if put in doors)

How big are teh kick panels in a 22? You could make some Fibreglass mould for the speakers there? In regards to kicking the speakers in the door, that's what the speaker grills are for

I'd look at splits in the front with the tweeter and speaker near each other either in the door or kick panel.

I think just tweeters in the front and the woofers in the back would sound like arse!

the kick panels arent so big. and you would kick the speakers more in the kick panels than you would in the door.

i had a set splits in the front of mine, but my woofers kept shorting from water in the door. (only used tiny pods). ended up ripping them out when i replaced the door cards and just using the tweeters. also had a set of 6" on the back parcel shelf (crappy brand) but bounce of the back window and a sub (12" sealed box) in the boot. (yes bugger all boot space) but on the whole sounds pretty goood. .

although have to reinstall my front woofers as i cant use my hand free kit without them. all i get is the extreme high pitch. (not so fun, when trying to have a convo)

Oh and head unit is mounted in the glovebox.

a thick piece of mdf is mounted above the glove box frame to the top of the dash (cant see any of the brackets, hidden by top vent cover) and then the deck is bolted to that mdf through the roof of the glove box. solid as a rock.

benefit is when i leave my car, i close the glove box and my H/U dissapears.
the car is only small so if i need to change Cds, i have to lean a little bit, but whatever.
and i use a remote the rest of the time.

    I have a 73 22'...and i have a pretty serious sound system in mine.

i have a bluetooth head unit mounted in the glovebox, (due to the value of an uncut dash)...
i have 2 6" speakers in my doors (just fit)......had to chop up doors...
i also have two 6x9's in my rear parcel shelf, running norrth south... which needed to be chopped in...sitting flat..

i also have a 10" sub in my boot.
and i have a amp under my drivers seat....
    hope this helps.

the glovebox is definately the place to put ure H/U
