or is your oil pressure relief valve in the pump sticking?
try with another sender first.
when was the relief valve last cleaned/checked?
hey guys,
ive got an electric SPECO oil pressure gauge hooked up to the 1g,
cold start i have around 80psi, when warm it sits on 40psi,
BUT when you give it a sharp/hard rev, it bounces all over the place 0- 100psi,
if i give it a rev, and hold the revs, say 5000rpm, the gauge settle to around 20psi,
but the bouncing bit when you give it a hard rev, is that normal? or is it the gauge or sender playing up?
ive got the sended mounted in a oil filter housing sandwich block,

the motor was rebuilt about 5k ago, dont know if that was with a new OP or the old one re-used, will find out though, (as i really cbf pulling the OP off!)Originally Posted by oldcorollas

think i'll buy an autometer OP gauge, try that, have heard a few failures with speco, (too bad i bought these b4 i heard that....)
why not try to borrow a sender or sender and gauge off someone?
autometer are not always that good![]()

on that subject what would be some accurate reliable guages without breaking the bank??? I am looking to buy a whole bunch of guages and shoving them in the glove box so appearance wont be priority, Ive heard vdo go allright?

VDO or smiths are the bomb,
But not cheap,
Autometer are more for people who like to drive there car while feeling themselves,
I can think of a few programable gauges we have used in the past which also have been very rad, but wont be appropriate due to cost
OC is probly right,
Although my guess woul be just faulty electronics
are they the 7 colour change LED ones? spewin i was gonna get a/f, boost, vac, volts, oil pres, oil temp, water temp, air temp, egt, revs, speedo and put them all up the pillar and all over the dash and set them to change through the colours around the car like a snake-light but i guess its pointless if they dont work properlyOriginally Posted by merc-blue

i think i'll just hook up the oil pressure tester gauge, (forgot we had one!)
see what happens then. kepp u guys updated,
so VDO you reckon are good?
Wouldnt it make sense for it to move around a little? When you idle then there is a base oil pressure, when you rev it the oil pump speeds up and increases presure and let the revs drop the opposite happens.
Although it shouldnt be going to 0 - the only thing i can imagine other than a faulty sensor is a slight break in the oil flow (is it to or from the filter where it is?) or a dodgy ground that gets affected through variable engine speeds and not affecting it when constant. I cant see the pic at work - but if its a single wire then it should ground form the engine and because of the rubber seal on the sender adaptor this may not be occuring.
Look forward to the results you get. Where are you actually going to put the test gauge - in the filter adaptor or where the pressure sender should be on the engine (have no idea) - be good to compare the two.
.
The sender needs to be earthed better.
Mine did the same thing, added a little earth strap to the sender body and it fixed it immediately.
I will put a dollar on it that it is your problem too as your symptoms are exactly the same![]()

A bit of a long shot, but how about a dodgey bypass valve in the filterMight be worth while replacing it to see

i agree with these guys
you could try dodgily by getting jumper cable and clamping around body of sender, to anywhere with earth.

Yeah I had to attach an earth cable to my sandwich block before my oil pressure/temp gauges would read properly. You'd think being bolted to the block would earth it but apparently not.![]()
I squished an exposed end of the wire against the sender body using a hose clamp. It works but there are probably neater ways to do it.

I did the same but used a stainless zip tie and put a male spade on the end of the wire.Originally Posted by Norbie
It's usually pretty easy to hide the wire on one side of the sender out of sight.
In my case I always use the Locktite master pipe thread sealant on the NPT fittings for peace of mind and I think that would act as an insulator somewhat.Originally Posted by Norbie
