forgot to mention that the base Idle is set to factory specs...![]()
Hi guys I have a Ae82, with a 4AGE, and intermittently has crank, no fire. then some times it will start normally, but then ilde really low and then stall... I've also had it driving and then have a sugre once, and had it cut power down to ilde when accelerating ( then i backed off, then it accel. for a sec, then i got back on the gas, and had nothing, just ilde) then rolled for a few seconds, then it drove fine...
My problem is that it changes from symtoms from time to time, and it will only do it once every 3 or 4 days.. then more common one is crank no fire....
I tried checking for codes and it gave me code 456, I have no idea what that code is, my book does not tell me that one..
I changed the Dizzy bout 5 months ago, although it was a second hand one, and I've been told that the TPS on 4AGE's shit themselves a fair bit..... and my brother thinks its a fuel pump thing....
any help would be great, possibly ways to check the TPS, or should i just start changing those parts slowly and see if one of them fixes them.....
I hate intermittent problems, my problem doesnt even last long enough to really do tests...if it does crank no fire, if i turn the ign off for a few seconds, it will start first go..

have u replaced the ignitor or coil
code 4: water thermo signal is open or short circuited
code 5:doesn't exist
code 6:G or Ne signal was not received when the engine was cranked for 2 seconds or longer.Ne signal was not received for 50msec at engine speed over 1000rpm.

heres a link for the diagnosis book.
What's the compression?
What's the condition of ALL the wiring, especially the battery cables & grounds?
Whats the condition of the ignition system? Pulled a plug wire and seen a nice fat blue 7/16in.11mm spark?
Is this a transplant or been in salt water?
replaced coil pack, bout 6 months ago with new,
compression is at 190 psi across the board, wirings not too bad, car hasnt been rewired if thats anything to go on.
Damo, ure a champ. i've looking for that manual for ages...
Your starting system is totally seperate from the engine.
Diagnose the starting system first. You might be looking at a main relay or ground, or something like that thats affect all 3 of the systems. But you can't do anything for sure until you check into it.
Never just throw parts at your car. Its an easy way to waste alot of money.
mine does the same when a certain capacitor is loose.
Near the fuse box there's a little bass coloured capacitor that earths to the body through a bolt. I've had it completely stop my car once because the bolt came loose after I fiddled with it.
It might be near the dizzy on the std models though (mine's a gze)
