300 hp from a 6 litre motor? Awesome! Oh the humanity!Originally Posted by caibs
norbie you're right, it probably would cost a bit but you could easily pick a fresh motor up with those mods for a cheap price. but if going 7m you'd want one with a good quality head gasket so you'd probably spend a bit anyway. and yeah, that combo in my friends one tonner made 248rwhp which was ok, it ran a flat 14 with that motor. and yes you can get them to run 10's as his ran a 10.4 n/a on a new 383 alloy headed combo but it did come at a high price. now its getting low comp pistons and a 671. its a dedicated burnout car now though.

but regardless, as far as a chev in this car goes, theres enough reasons above mentioned to not do it. but you shouldnt hate on chevs, they're good and have proven themselves many times.

Caibs, newsflash mate.
The headline read
50 horsepower per litre is gayer than two men having sex.
Were you one of those men?
Only decent Chev is the LT5.
The post 93 ones had 4 bolt mains, 400 hp and 500ish Nm.
It's worthy.
OK, sorry for the late reply, but being a bit distracted with the new toy! Here are some LARGE pics.

Caibs, OK boy wonder. Riddle me this - what is so cool about a Chev? You still haven't answered the question. You say it only takes 6 wires to hook one up - my oh-so-complicated 1UZ only required 5 wires to be connected to power to fire it up.
Even you've admitted that one with decent power is damn exxy to build and that one with straightforward (but still > $1K) mods is more lacklustre than the much maligned 7M with a bleed valve. I don't really care that they have pushrods - they work - but even an idiot like yourself must accept that they contribute to additional weight and poor efficiency.
We are flushed with infinitely better solutions (the fact that people have suggested a multitude of solutions for the OP is testament to this) and it defies logic that cavemen still resort to these museum pieces to power their chariots.
