Nah run flex line down to the rail. or run the rail to the boot with grommets. Entry via the spare tyre well works.

its fairly flexible (you buy it in a 500mm dia roll) and can be bent by hand.
you always run some flexible line (braid prefered) but keep it to a minimum

Pumps dont have to be lower than the lowest point in the tank, its just nicer. The Pierburg is a proper lift pump, so it will vac lift for short periods of time without dying. I primed my system anyway with a large syringe.
