guys, i just took the sump off my 1g (mid rear)

there seems to be a metal plate between the sump and the block. currently the plate is stuck to the sump, should i be taking the metal plate off the sump and resealing that as well?

if it can come apart, it can leak. seal the bugger anyway..

unless you are 100% sure it is not leaking and ok for service?

i dont know how you'll get the sump off unless
    a: you drop the crossmember
    or
b: you lift up engine higher than the pickup to remove windage tray and clean up whole surface then re-gasket goo.

windage tray, or baffle plate, what ever you want to call it,

yes you need to separate it and re-seal it, do it now or once its in the car its a PITA!!!

been there done that and i wont do it again! especially in a 23 or 28 conversion!

ok so i'm planning this out to make sure i do it right. figured out how to clean surfaces etc. and also the method in applying the sealant.
Since i only have 3 minutes to assemble everything, i'm thinking this won't be enuf as i'd have to apply material to the sump and then again to the baffle plate, and then assemble.
Or should i do it seperately i.e. Seal baffle plate to sump, bolt up to block so it compresses properly. let it cure. Take sump off again then seal baffle plate to block?

ahhh i think my post was a bit hard to understand, but hopefully someone got it.

Biggest advice is, make sure you are using Toyota genuine sealant! If you use this, you should have more than 3 mins to play with. Trust me, I used some sealant that was marketed as 'sump sealant' which killed my engine. The sealant didnt go off so it ended up mixing with the oil in the sump and blocked my oil pickup which then ended up with a spun big end. What sealant are you using?

3mins should be easy. You dont have to get all the bolts in, 4 or 6 will do.
