At a guess I'd say you need a new clutch,
the springs in the plate go weak or loose and cause
"Clutch Shuddder"
Only a guess as internet diagnosis is only ever that at best.

Hi guys.
Have a problem which I cannot pin down and solve in my MX83
As the title suggests, when I accelerate from standstill, be it normally, or hard, the car will shudder from about 8km->15km and then stop.
If i accelerate like a granny, there is minimal to no shudder.
If the car is rolling and I accelerate, nothing.
The sound seems like it is coming from the rear left side of the car.
I've had a look under the car, given the diff, drive shafts and arms a good shake, and all seemed to be ok.
The drive line has about 2-3mm of play in the centre bearing.
I'm going to check out the diff oil tomorrow, and make sure there is still fluid in there... but otherwise I am stumped.
Has anyone had anything similar or know what it could be?
I'd rather not take it to pedders![]()

It's an auto
And it's just been replaced as I thought that was the cause.
It went away for a while, but its come back with vengeance.
haha, well not that then.
Did it go away as soon as the auto was replaced?

I had a VL turbo once that started doing that. It was an auto and after much investigation it turned out to be the rear gearbox mount. It had a split in it and as soon as i replaced it it was gone. Very similar to what you are describing.

tailshaft unbalanced?
RA23 - Twincharged
JZZ20 - Daily
Fuckzored universal joints? My unis seem to last only 6-12 months, & are a good 3 months overdue for replacement. They make a shudder like you describe, only on take off, stops at relatively low speed etc.
That's my interweb diagnosis.

Ill try to track down a tail shaft, get it ballance, and find a new gearbox mount.. buggered if I know from where.
Interesting... I'd that that if the above fails to solve the problem.Originally Posted by BigWorm
Thanks heaps people!
If the tailshaft was out of balance, then you would expect shuddering to get worse as speed increased, not get better.![]()
Stuffed uni's, gearbox mounts and diff mounts would all be worth checking out.

I do get a resonance vibration @ about 55, and again at 108ish.
Could all be connected.
Anyway, I have a good list of stuff to check and swap, so fingers crossed![]()
Yeah sounds a lot like tailshaft problems to me, either stuffed uni or centre bearing.

check out the diff bushings to the subframe, the subframe bushings, the centre bearing on the tailshaft, and the tailshaft itself.
Problem fixed!
After removing 4 tail shafts from the wreckers, trying to get the best one, I took the best one, installed, and bam, no more shudder, no more resonance.
Perfect driver now.
Old shaft bearing was stuffed. Makes a nice grindy noise when spun by hand. Rubber was fairly shot too.
Thanks for the suggestions.
