    Default turbo choice for 3gste

    Garrett GT30R or GT2871R or Garrett GT3071R. im looking for a spool up at about 3-4k rpm and max boost at 5500-6000

    the GT30R would be my ultimate choice but cant find when it starts spooling up or max boosts on a 2.0L 4cyl

    ahhh! trying to get the perfect blend of responce and power i think this task only masters will ever pull off...

    also it ther a way to set boost to peak at certain rpms?

    Goto their website, garrett.com or something and have a look. They have a tutorial example showing you how to select a turbo.

    The GT2860R "disco potato" is a popular choice and will give close to 200kw at wheels.You seam to be looking for something bigger, you will get more lag. GT2876R is a bad choice in my experience if you want big power numbers. Also look on www.nissansilvia.com for alot of stories about turbos for a 2 liter.

    if you don't mind waiting till 6000rpm for max boost, go straight for the 30 series! the disco potato is a great turbo for a compromise of response and power... sounds like you're going for more outright power

    hmm yeah im goin for more power but still have the spool up in these regions..... im getting the apexi avc-r and you can map the boost or thats what i hear.

    im looking for 280-300rwkw and paln to build the engine up abit later on im really keen on the gt30r. maybe with engine mapping and 272 cams the lag wont be that bad hehe......

    any experience on this and advice would be great.....

    Think about what your building the car for. Even if you just like following your friends on a country road, with a bigger turbo you could well be slower. Sometimes you only notice lag when you are trying to keep up to a friend who is running the factory turbo.

    And if your into drifting, the bigger turbo will take more commitment in driving it. More tyre smoke if you get it right, but harder to drive.

    gt2871r = 250rwkw 3500-4000rpm max boost
    gt3076r = 300rwkw with supporting mods 4000-4400 max boost

    take your pick

    id go with a 3076 but as stated it will be a handfull to drive on the track.

    not into drifting much i cant afford the tires lol.... when i get the engine sorted eg. strenghten then ill think about putting the stress drifting places on the car. i might try to run the gt30r for track/drag/street and something small like a 25/28 for drift/autocross. i want2 try and build something that you can do it all with @ a semi competive level

    thanks for the replies so far its shedding abit more light on the subject

    Linden, the gt2871r has been on my list of upgrades to the 3S one day..
    You mention it will support 250rwkw, around what boost is required for that figure?

    with the 52trim front it will need about 1.3-1.4bar depending on your supporting mods.

    expect full boost b4 3700rpm with a .64 rear or about 4300rpm with a .86 depending on cams/ cam timing.

    i found 40rwkw at 3800rpm just by changing the cam timing on my gen3 and yes it was a stock long engine with only boltons.

    the .86 will bring the power on more progressively and be better on a track car but id use a .64 for a streetcar.

    Sorry, getting slightly off topic.. But what did you find worked well with the gen3 cam timing? At the moment I have mine set pretty much factory. Got the gears on there but never really got into adjusting them.

    im going for a gt3076r with an exhaust housing around .63 on a 2L unfortunately its a 1g not a 3s, im hoping turbo beanie and heat coating will help a bit as well

    with a microtech, 550's, adj cams i would like reasonable response with around 250rwkw

    for the track i would go a gt28rs or a gt2871r, just have a look on ns.com and see what some of those guys are getting out of their sr20's

    With the right head porting and cams + 10:1 static CR, you will surprise yourself how big of a Turbo you can actually go with a 2L Engine.

    Rep points are for those who feel inadequate in other areas !

    what are you waiting for? its like unleashing a beast when you do it.

    b4 the gears were adjusted it use to drive thru third gear, once adjusted it would get to about 3500rpm and just turn the tires to smoke worth the effort and $$$ me thinks.

    i had roughly 5deg advance on the exhaust and roughly 10deg advance on the inlet (didnt have proper marks unfortunately but its a good step in the right direction. just make sure you reset your base timing on the cas as you may end up detonating the shite out of your motor

    Pics speak a thousand words so heres one.

    for a reference on where they are just look at the cutouts for the alignment pins just behind the bolts/washers.

    cheers
