count the teeth? thats the accurate way of doing it. what if someone swapped a diffent ratio to std in there? diff codes dont really mean much unless its 100% stock.
cheers

Hi guys,
Im looking at a Hilux diff cant find the 4 digit ID But have found the number 61Y on the unit.
I know the unit is from an LN60 2.4D 1410 drum to drum.
How Can I find what the diff ratio is with out the 4 digit ID?
and is the 61Y meaning full?
Manny

Will probably be a 4.3 ratio if its a diesel LN6x.
But yeah the only other certain way really is to count the teeth.
Thanks guys,
Did an esstimate before I picked up the diff, turned the yoke 2 and a bit times before the drum turned once , I was holding the other drum steady.
Worked out to be about 4.4 ( multiplying by 2 as only 1 axle is turning).
On getting the thing home I counted 39 teeth crown 9 teeth pinion (39/9 = 4.33)
This should be close enough to the original final drive with the new box.
Old (W50) 5th gear 0.85 Diff 4.1 final drive 3.485
New (W58) 5th gear 0.783 Diff 4.33 final drive 3.39
Anyone think otherwise?
(Motor is a 1GGTE).

4.3 should be spot on for a 1g but it may prove to be too short for extended highway use.
what size tyres are you running? if its close to 620mm dia you will probly find that at 100kph you will be doing arund 3200rpm or so.

what would be the largest dia tyres I could use under the RA28?
