    Default Gearbox ID

i've just picked myself up 2 gearboxes kinda cheap. one is a t50 from a TA22 (i believe) and the other is from a corolla (apparantly, but i highly doubt it)

here's the photo's of them that should help ID them

The bottom one here is the t50

The left one here is the T50

i am very unconvinced that the unknown one is from a corolla, as the centre shaft is quite larger than the one on my k40 and the t50, as well as the clutch fork being on the opposite side of the bellhousing.

    all help is appreciated.

How many gears? Could be a borg warner from a corona maybe.

i've only been able to find 4, i haven't been able to get it across to where reverse should be.

the numbers cast and etched into it are still readable, it had 33111-20090 cast onto the center section, and 33141-31010 on the shifter extension. i'll go have a play and try and find reverse and fifth(?)

    just some more ref pics

can confirm it only has 4 forward and 1 reverse. terribly heavy thing, not fun carting around.

Yeah, it looks like w-series to me and they are a bit more heavy. I would say that, if its a 4 speed like you said, it will be a w40.

Doesnt appear to have enough box to bellhousing bolts for a w series box but i have nfi so i could be very wrong. Was there even a 4spd w series? I'll have access to an EPC later tonight so ill run the part number through and see what i can dig up.

    It's a W40, probaby from a Corona Mk2 MX10. Definately a 4 speed - there isn't enough bulk in the extension housing for it to be a 5 speed.

The gearbox mount is identical to the RT81 or MX10. That said, RT81 box has 2 studs on the driver's side to mount the slave - your one doesn't - so I'm going with MX10. That also fits with the location of starter motor on the bellhousing too.

Happy to be corrected though. It might come from a light truck of the same vintage although they typically ran early R series motors with the starter motor on the driver's side.

Whoever told you it came from a Corolla probably meant to say Corona. The RT104 is where most W40's come from, which would mean it has an R series bellhousing. Another possibility is older Crown or Corona MkII which would mean it has an M series bellhousing.
