Asked an electrician mate and it seems to be that my temp switch isn't earthing out or its shagged.
Hey Hey,
I put my 4age back together and the fans were working fine and now they stay on, Ive unplugged the temp sender wire and cleaned it and also removed and cleaned the sensor itself but still wont turn off.
Is my sensor shot ? and can some one give me a part number for a new one ?
I think its the sensor that goes into the thermostat housing.

try earthing it out yourself. if it turns off your sender will be rooted

No wait, i thought the only ones that go to the ECU were the ones on the back of the head ?
The thermo fans turn on from the thermostat housing.
Just like MRMOPARMAN said. Get a peice of wire earth it somewhere and plug the wire into the plug which normally sits on the thermostat housing. With Ignition on see if the fans turn on.
OK,
Replaced the switch in the thermostat housing today with a new one and now the fans will not turn on. If i unplug the switch they come on as they should. Relays are ticking over fine as well.
Any idea's ?
The fans wont come on until the engine is above normal operating temp. Leave it idling for a while and they will come on. If they don't come on and the temp gauge gets right up to hot, just pull the wire of the temp switch so the fans come on and let them bring the temp down, then remove the switch and check it in a pot of boiling water to make sure it is doing it's job.

How the temperature switch works is:
- when BELOW the temperature, the switch is connected to earth.
- when it reaches the temperature, the switch disconnects from earth, and this turns the fans on.
Those switches have a failsafe operation, so that when they die, the fans stay on all the time.

No they aren't working properly otherwise this thread wouldn't still be goingOriginally Posted by The Witzl

The old switch was shagged as the fans were all ways on so i replaced it with a new one. I let the temp go to 3/4 before i pulled the plug to get them to work, When the old sensor was working it would get to just over half and then they would come on.
Went out and had a tinker with the wiring, Seems to be working now that i soldered the wire and got rid of the wire joiner that was hiding.
Thanks for your reply's guys.
Moral to the story: Dont use wire joiners. Only solder.
