Default Do SuperChargers blow oil seals like turbos?

    Hey guys,

As per title... do superchargers blow oil seals like turbos? If so, what kind of oil is in them?

I've got this kinda mix of normal brown engine oil, and a grey sorta sludge that kind of looks like valveolene grease coming out of the inter cooler!

No. It's pretty normal for your intercooler to get coated with oil and crap from the cam cover breather. Just clean it out.

People have talked about SC oil seals and pressure equalisation, but I've had no issues over 4 years of zero SC maintainence. It may pay to check the amount and look of oil in the SC gearcase though.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

Thanks for that, so it would be a wise idea to put a catch can in between the rocker cover and the intake and have the "can" returning oil to the engine at a low pressure point!?

yes to the catch can, no to the oil returns. (IMO any crappy moist oil that gets passed out the top of the engine should not be returned to the engine). it's amazing how much moisture builds up in my catch can when i drain it. would hate to be putting that back into the engine.

i use general purpose thinners to flush out the inside of the core too. it cleans all the old oil buildup out and evaporates quickly.

    Awesome thanks for that feral!

Not putting a return in is much easier anyway, although i'm certain for it to be legal it had to have a return line!?

just need a return for the air to the manifold or intake before the SC...

the oil doesn't need to go back to the sump.

then again.. maybe that oil is helping to seal the SC
