Can it be done? Sure, why not. Should it be done? Um, no. Believe it or not you can actually buy engines that already run on diesel.
Hmm as of last night talking to an engineer, i'm casting doubts over a high comp. LPG 1.8L 2TG.
I'm curious is there a way to change the 1.8L 2TG into a turbo intercooled diesel 2TGTDI?
The 3T cast iron block would hold the compression, plenty of meat!
88261 heads I'm sure also would be plenty strong enough for the job..
Manufacture parts to suit the very high compression, bead blast everything so it can disperse heat well and not give either the block or head to much stress..
Now im curious could it be done?

Yeah but you can't buy a 2TGTDIPointless totally, but +10 uniqueness everything the muztang has to be about
It would really not be feasible. How would you mount the injectors the only way would be through the spark plug holes and on a 2tg that woud be hard. I've never seen a screw in injector. Then there would be the problem of mounting the injector pump. Where would you drive it off remember that the pump must turn in time with the engine so it would inject the fuel at the correct time of the compression cycle.
Piston design would need to match the style of injection so a good mix of fuel and air other wise it would not run very well. Stopping the head from lifting off the block would be a big drama remember diesel needs about 16:1 comp to get any sort of a bang then your going to put boost on that again. And the list would go on with problem areas.
The totoal cost of this project would be very scary
Cheers

HAHA ok well in the words of mythbusters, BUSTED.. guess thats not a totally feasible idea oh well... Very much thanks for the imput![]()
i guess you could run a comon rail setup useing an ecu but with all the time and money it would need to change it to diesel, it would really be a waste of time? nice thought thow![]()
And if you have thr money to do such a thing, ill take some off your hands![]()
cheers, dan

To indulge this idea, a 3T-GTEU head would give a spare hole for DI - it's what Alfa Romeo did going from Twin Spark heads to DI, just used the same engine, same head, half the spark plugs! It would then be interesting to see if someone would go petrol DI on a 3T-GTEU - Any takers?

For the money you'd spend on converting, maybe find a 1KZTE front cut from a lux or hiace. Factory TDI with alot more proven reliability.
