if i can remember, the backing plate is held on by the studs that go threw the carrier so you have to push the studs threw and it wil come apart.
quick question, how do you separate the hilux drum backing plate off the axle??
Cheers.

i dont have a funny or cool signature.
already done that... now the backing plate is loose but is still stuck between the hub and carrier.....
got nothing to take a picture either which is teh suck....
Do i need to separate the bearing as well?
ahh yeh you do, then you have to slide it all down the axle (dam that sucks) you have to take the circlip off chisel the retainer off the axle then the hard part try and slide the plate and bearing down the axle (may have to get brutal but brutal with care![]()

worse fears realised.....
cheers for the grim news, haha.

there is chiseling to do???
can you point to the part in your pic???
ok, see how the circlip is being removed and see that steel retainer (looks like a spacer) under it, its that thing you dont have to chisel it thats just how i do it, you could use a cuting disk or grinder (oxy and heat up or cut it off ) then use chisel at the end. you dont wanna damage axle.
order a bearing and seal kit it wil come with everything and it will be like new.

i see... cheers again... off to the shed....
Or you could follow the directions in the manual. I made the SST from an old housing.
