Why would you want to replace the turbos to start with?
What are your goals? and what are your limitations (how much cash you got)??
I have done a bit of a search but to no avail.
I have a 2JZGTE - VVTI and am wondering if it is worthwile replacing the turbos with something of better quality. My most required component from this engine is making it's power from 2000rpm to 5000rpm.
Any suggestions?

if u wanna make power between those rpms maybe a SC or V8 will be better suited
any turbo thats small enough to spool that early wont give u enough top end

Sorry I'm may be a bit slow - ask me again.
If you have an unlimited sort of budget, grab a popular turbo sports car magazine and pick the biggest, brightest, most attractive advertisement for turbos or a performance workshop that is near you and go see them. Im sure they will help you make the corrct decision.
SOLD : 1GGTE Rt142 Corona - Twin TD04-9b turbos - 180rwkw = 13.1 @105mph
if you want power between 2-5000 then a gt28 would work, very quick spool, and anything above 4500rpm would be a waste![]()
plus it would look hell stupid
as mentioned above...WHY???? the factory twins are so damn responsive anyway!![]()

As I said, I am thinking that there might be better quality ones available than standard Toyota issue. If everything was top shelf from factory there would be no need to change anything on our cars - but we do, to improve.
But if the factory ones are the goods than so be it.
My advice is to get a pair of Garrett Ballbearing turbos of the same size as the OEM items. You will need to make new manifolding, but it should all fit in roughly the same place, and the valving for the twins should still all fit. By going to the Garrett Ballbearings, they will give you the same top end power, but spool earlier, giving more lowdown torque. They will still be awesomely responsive, and you should not need to do anything more than maybe a piggyback tweak to your ECU or the rest of the system (your not raising the top end, so the injectors etc should be fine)
Thats my advice anyways... keep with the twins, a single just wont give you the range that they do.

factory ones are awsum!...easily do 240-250rwkw's
but WHAT do you want to gain?....if your just wanting to gain quality...your wasting your time upgrading as they are pretty sweet from the factory.
yeah i agree, unless u want to boost it over 14psi or so they will hold up just fine, and for Garratt ball bearing replacements ud be lookin at $3k+Originally Posted by IN 05 NT
which u could spend on no2 injection/tuning/exhaust sytem if u want quicker spool
And once you slap a nice set of dumps on them and remove alot of the heat surrounding them while at the same time allowing greater flow they can see much higher boost levels than 14psi.

LeeRoy, you would need to replace the ceramic wheels for steel items if you want boost higher than 14psi.
Aerokabn, why would you spend money on NO2 injection, when the first time you get pulled over for anything, the copper finds the bottle and lines, and impounds/crushes/auctions your car out from under you for hooning in an illegally modified vehicle??
Agreed the Garrett option isnt cheap, and the factory turbos are pretty good, but if budget isnt the concern, and you want low end gains, its going to be the method that gives you the biggest low end gains.

There are a few guys on here running circa 20psi on standard ceramic wheeled turbos. Their biggest problem is heat and once that is reduced their life is extended. Running high boost will undoubtedly shorten their life though.
