    Default Rebuilding Shocks

I have an AE92 sx with JIC coilovers and the passenger side front shock has developed quite a bit of play so it will require a rebuild. I'm wondering does anyone know where there could be rebuilt and what this would cost roughtly.

Ive been thinking that if its gunna cost near on a grand i might just be better off buying another whole set of struts which can be had for around $1000. Even if i werent to go that way what other options are there? Replace the shocks in the JIC struts for something else and if so what would fit.

I'll have these out when i get a chance and grab some measurements such as shock length, travel, diameter etc.

Edit: I cant seem to find much online but from what ive read it seems as though the shocks i have arent rebuildable and even if they are people seem to think theyre not that good and not worth rebuilding anyways.

Ive also been looking for replacement shocks but cant seem to find many catalog's with the information im after.

    So far:
Whiteline: dont do shocks for standard struts
    - Might do them for the JIC struts but i dont have any measurements and neither do they

Koni: NFI - cant find a catalog

Bilstein: Make a sports insert for standard struts, not sure on JIC struts - same reason as above.

KYB: Nothing under "performance shocks" for corolla, only excel G replacement.

    Cheers

Yeah, its impossible to find decent info about shocks on the net.
Best thing you can do is call aus distributors for info.

In the case of Koni, thats Toperformance (9873 1722).
Give em a call, they were *very* helpful last time i called.

Im getting my mx83 JIC coilovers rebuilt by www.shockreco.com.au, They seem to be the only shop that will rebuild the shocks for JIC's. They are in QLD so you will need to send them.

I was told a rebuild for each shock is $160

What type of JIC's have you got? Are they adjustable? Whats wrong with them? and Whats the return time on them rebuilding and sending back down?

My JICs are SF1 non adjustable. I have only sent the front pair so far. Both shocks where leaking. They just got there yesterday but they assured me its a quick return time.

Mine are non adjustable also. I bought them second hand so they were probably on the way out when i got them. Theyre silver, pretty ordinary looking, the threaded sleave is blended into the strut also. I'll get some pics and hopefully youll be able to tell me if theyre the same as yours as they have no markings to distinguish their series/type.

I'm thinking ill just throw some stock struts back in while i pull these out to get measurements and depending on price and whats available maybe replace them with something adjustable cause the JIC ones ride pretty hard. I'm sure the place can rebuild them (if theyre rebuildable) so theyre not as hard.

If you're trying to find a suitably sized replacement strut insert take a look at the Gabriel catalog http://www.gabriel.com/documents/200...log/GAB_05.pdf it has info listed for extended and collapsed length and moutning types for all there shocks.
